The Reds are so set against trading that they are unlikely to move even Rich Aurilia.

He's bluffing. If he isn't, he's trying to get fired.

He certainly doesn't appear to have many smarts. It makes you wonder how a guy like that ever got a front office job in the first place.

They don't have what it takes to win. They could piece out what they have and build a strong team a year or two down the road. Felipe Lopez, Wily Mo Pena and Edwin Encarnacion are good building blocks. The types of guys they could get for Dunn, Kearns and Griffey or Casey could help them build on that.

Thery are total and complete idiots if they dont at least TRY to trade Griffey the the Yankees. They are in dire need of a CF'er and they'd probably pay most of his contract.

If I were a Reds' fan, I'd be furious. I'd trade Pena or Kearns for some young pitching, though this might be a precursor to an offseason deal that ships Casey and Dunn to Houston.

Maybe he is trying to get fired. Like George Costanza, he's trying to do everything absolutely wrong, yet his higher-ups are even more incompetent than he is. :)

seen on tv where griffey's contract is back loaded for like 15-20 yrs after his contract is up.

i dont think any team will take that on. esp. with his track record of injuries these last few years.

i'd take kearns in a heartbeat. but pena/dunn would just add to our already obscene k's.

Yea there is like 54.2 (i think) million dollars in deferred money (at 4% interest). Its deferred till 2009-2024

I do NOT NOTNOTNOTNOTNOTNOTNOTNOTNOTNOT want Griffey. I'd LOVE dunn though.

You do realize the Cubs have the 7th fewest strikeouts in all of baseball, right? Striking out too much is not the problem.

it might be that i watch too much cubs ball. it seems to me that we strike out too much in key situations.

but i honestly dont know much on the stat's front.

Ownership has told O'Brian that he could trade either Randa or Arilia and no one else.

Looks like his hands are tied unless someone makes them a stupid offer that they would be even stupider to turn down.

Actually what people don't know is that we WALK less than any team in MLB and we have the FEWEST pitches per plate appearance. But since he strikes out too much he stinks and can't help us. Oh, wait..................

Exactly. Which is why he would be an awesome fit for us. Great power. Great eye. Wonderfull OBP. I'd be so so sososososoososo happy if we got him.

The Cubs are 29th in MLB for Pitches per plate appearance & 27th for Walks per plate appearance.

Adam Dunn is 3rd in MLB in walks.

He's 4th in MLB for BB/Plate appearance.

He's also 4th in MLB for pitches per plate appearance.

I think it's pretty safe to say he'd help us in the 3 hole with Lee, Ramirez and Burnitz behind him.

Me too. I get happy just hearing his name in the same sentence as the word "Cubs".

let me get this right. the reds are a team that have one of the best offenses and one of the worst staffs. they have 4 major league quality outfielders but they trade their 3rd baseman and are to keep all the outfielders. they also are to keep there high priced flyball pitcher in a bandbox.... i'm know rocket scientist but seems to me you trade an outfielder for pitching, trade your spare infielder(auriila) for anything and beg someone to take milton and his contract so you can start over this offseason.

it seems to me that they would not be far off if they dumped griffey and milton's salary and signed about 4(or more) pitchers for the 30 mil they pay those 2!

Dirt Dog, who's your source on Reds' ownership demands?

Last night on the 11P CDT Baseball Tonight. Buster Olney??? Goes with a few other things that have been said in Cincy and Dayton papers on line too.

If we gave up a very good prospect like Hill along with some other pitchers and took back Milton in return - they would be open to trading anyone. I think O'Brian is just posturing right now to get the best value possible. Can you blame him? They don't have to trade Dunn now - but to get the best value for him possible they shouldn't wait until the offseason.

Whatever deferred salary Griffey has already earned would not be paid by the club that traded for him. For example, if a team traded for him this offseason they'd owe him no more than the $41.5 million he's owed over 2006-2008. (That's assuming the Reds don't send back a dime in the deal and Griffey's 2009 option is not picked up.) The defferred payments for 2000-2005 would still be the responsibility of the Reds.
