I'd be a little disappointed. I certainly don't want Jim Hendry to make a trade for the sake of making a trade--I really don't think he'll do that. But because he's pulled something off the last two seasons, for him to stand pat right now when the Cubs have a decent chance of making the post-season would disappoint me.

How would you feel? Just a little discussion to pass the time while the seconds tick away...

I want the Cubs to win the Series and I don't think a trade for Soriano or Manny would put them at that point. Now if it's a trade for next year and beyond, I'm all for it. Those 2 players make me very nervous.

I'd be fine with it. Its a sellers market and the few available players appear over-priced.

No sense in making a move......to simply make a move.

Lets add Nomar, Williamson and Wood on Friday and see where that takes us.

At this stage, I don't see any signs that the Cubs are going to do a deal whether major or minor. I've pretty much accepted that Hendry will be happy just getting Wood, Nomar, and Williamson on the roster. It's been a tough trade market this year with very very few sellers and other than a few minor deals, I don't expect we'll be seeing much action.

I'll probably be a little less disappointed if no one else makes a major move.

No dissappointment at all. I think it's clear that Jim recognizes the need for a reliver, etc. So, I know he is trying to acquire such players but the asking price may simply be to high. If Jim does not make a trade because the price is too high, that makes complete sense for the future of the franchise.

In addition, given our teams recent performance, we haven't played like a playoff team and I wouldn't take risks mortgaging the future for this year.

If by this evening the Cubs are still in possession of Felix Pie, Matt Murton, Ron Ce and Rich Hill, that'll be plenty good enough for me. I'm far less excited about who Hendry may acquire than I am fearful of what he may at the last minute resign himself to having to give up. Edited by Suffnekcow

I wouldn't be too happy if they don't make any deals. If the price is too high for Dunn, Soriano, Manny, Huff or anyone else, see what it will take to get Lawton. Lawton's OBP would be a nice fit at the top of the order.

But, if this team expects to go anywhere with Hollandsworth getting the bulk of playing time in left field, I'll be very disappointed if they did nothing and finished short of a wild card.

I'll be p-o'd. Now, Granted, I dont want him to trade just for the sake of trading. But I still would like to see us upgrade over hollandsworth....

I agree. Even if it's someone like Matt Stairs.

We've only got a limited window until Prior, Z, ARam, and Lee are making $10+ million somewhere (at least). How much money will Lee's agent want after 06 if he keeps playing like he has so far this season?

Gotta make a move to set us up for the rest of this year and 06 in the OF.

I wouldn't be disappointed because of the weak market this year. Hopefully getting Wood, Williamson and Nomar back will be like acquiring guys without having to give up anything. I would want an impact player in a trade and I just don't see it happening, which is ok.

I'll be dissapointed, because you don't have anything guaranteed for you beyond this year, and at the very least he should take Hollandsworth away from Dusty, lest we wreck yet another position player prospect by blocking him with a bad veteran.

That said, there are only 2 players that I'd really want, and I don't think we're going to get Dunn or Manny, so there you go.

I think that counting on 3 guys who are that injury prone, and 2 who are coming off major surgeries to be impact players, or even produce beyond what you already have, is a big risk Hendry is taking. The only one I see contributing big is Wood.

I'd be disappointed because even with Nomar coming back I just don't see our offense being that good. Sure we'll score runs in bunches at times, but we also go through horrible slumps like we're in now. I'd like to see another big bat added.

I think the addition of Williamson and Wood to the bullpen will actually boost the bullpen quite a bit. I'd still like to see a trade for an arm, but it just doesn't seem very realistic. Teams are asking for way too much.

Derrek Lee's 2005 Salary: $7,666,667

Aramis Ramirez's 2005 Salary: $8,250,000(contract just inked this offseason, no extension needed.)

Mark Prior's 2005 Salary: $3,550,000

Carlos Zambrano's 2005 Salary: $3,760,000

Considering Aramis is locked up, and the fact Lee couldn't possibly ask for a 10 million dollar raise, we'd only have to boost our payroll maybe 15-18 million to keep those 4. AKA stop paying Sosa 16 mil to play in baltimore and wham, there's their money.

If a reasonable deal can't be made for either of Manny, Dunn or Soriano, then I hope we just sit tight.

We'd have to give up comparably "next to nothing" to get Kearns for to me feel "good" about any deal for him.

Which is kinda funny... I was kinda excited about the possibility of getting him 5-7 days ago.

Yeah, the only way I'd want to make a deal is if we got a big name; Dunn Manny Soriano. That's it, or maybe some big name that we haven't heard about. But I don't want another mediocre outfielder(Lawton, Kearns, Willy Mo). That is the LAST thing we need, if we get anything, get some speed for pinch running and an arm.

Why would a guy with tremendous OBP against right handed pitching, has speed and can lead off be the LAST thing we need.

Look at Lawton's OBP and OPS against right handed pitching and tell me he's not a significant upgrade to Hollandsworth. Lawton has a 100 point advantage over Hollandsworth in OPS. Also, it puts Hollandsworth on the bench where he has been much more effective.

While I'd rather see Dunn out there in LF, I wouldn't consider Lawton the LAST thing we need.

ANYONE is a tremendous upgrade over Todd Hollandsworth besides maybe Jason Dubois, Jody Gerut, and... oh let's see... Bernie Williams. And I don't want to sell the farm for Matt Lawton, Dusty would still use Hairston lead-off, and Walker 2. So we'd have a guy with a good OBP hitting 7, let's hope Henry Blanco can keep hitting doubles and homeruns.

No one ever said anything about selling the farm to get Lawton. We certainly didn't sell the farm to get Aramis or Randall Simon from Pitt. Why would Lawton cost us the farm? Pittsburgh will want something good in return. Fair enough.

I'm relatively sure that they've learned their lesson and won't trade Matt Lawton for Todd Wellmeyer.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. There is no way Littlefield shows up for work on Monday or Tuesday with Lawton still on his roster. Lawton also has quite a bit of money owed to him for the remainder of this year.

I'd bet Wellemeyer would be enough. As would Jody Gerut.

I'd feel like we were dead in the water. This team, as is, is not going to make the playoffs. Nomar coming back to play 4 games every 5 days is not going to be a significant enough upgrade for us to keep pace with Houston and St. Louis. The bar has been raised. The Cubs cannot hover above .500 all season and then try to make a run in September. With the way Houston is playing, it will be too little, too late.
