He also rejected a trade last year. I think he said he would be open to accepting a trade for someone on the West Coast. I hope this is close enough

Here in Texas people will be more than happy to chip in and pay for Chan Ho's airfare to San Diego...

Not sure why San Diego is making this move....Park's numbers are horrible and his contract is ridiculous. Perhaps the worst in baseball. One would think Nevin would fetch a bit more.

Actually, Park would probably do alright in San Diego. Just don't let him anywhere near the mound in Colorado. Yeeeeeeesh!

I doubt if Nevin would approve a trade to Texas either, although it would be in his best interest to go to an AL team where his miserable defense can be covered up by switching to DH.

I'll eat a hat if Texas is "west coast".

BigbadB, if I remember right, he hasa a limited no trade clause, which does NOT include Texas.

But, I believe the artical said that PARK was the one that has to approve.

Is Texas one of the teams he has a right to refuse a trade to?

According to the article, no.

Sorry, I posted that before I read the article.

Interesting. Actually, I think as long as Texas eats part of Park's contract, it could be a nice deal for San Diego. Park's long balls in Arlington won't make it to the warning track in Petco. Park also had success as a starter in Chavez Ravine, although I don't know whether Park is still that same pitcher today.

That's what I thought. Arlington is maybe the second or third best hitter's park in the majors, behind Colorado and perhaps Philly. Petco has become the best pitcher's park in the majors. He also doesn't have to face the DH anymore in the NL. All that could cut a run and a half possibly off his ERA.

Phil Nevin - 1B - SD

The Padres confirmed that a Phil Nevin-for-Chan Ho Park trade is done, pending the approval of the commissioner's office.

There's probably some money being included to even up salaries. Nevin is making $9 million this year and $10 million in 2006. Park makes $13 million this year and next and is due to receive deferred money in future years. We doubt the Padres are actually taking on money to get this deal done.

where does nevin play in texas? DH? or is he gonna be a back up for tex?

Defensively speaking, DH is the only position Nevin is good at. However, he can do a poor job defensively at 1b, 3b, c, LF and RF.

Too bad I am at work or I would listen to the SD sports talk. It is always fun to hear them in a tizzy. This is such a bad trade I have no idea where to begin. Remember in the off season before Sosa was dealt when Park's contract was considered the only one harder to move then Sosa's? I can't believe they found a taker. And WHY would Texas trade starting pitching when they are desparte despite the obvious "lets get rid of him".

Just unreal how Baseball is.

Considering that many of those positions are taken by better players, does this mean there's another move probable from the Rangers, sending an OF for some SP? Or does it mean that Mench/Hidalgo/Delucci are going to get the bulk of the PT in CF until Nix comes back?

It's just puzzling to me where he fits in.

With Park gone and Rogers suspended, the Rangers will have to trade for pitching. I would keep an eye on Dellucci moving on for pitching.
