I'd be for a Soriano trade if we hang on to Walker. If we deal Walker, then no thanks.
Yar.

Walker can get on base, talk a walk, and not strike out as much. Soriano will drive you batty with K's. When Nomar comes back I'd rather have Walker at 2nd and Murton in left than Soriano in left and Neifi at 2nd because you know that's what'll happen.

No I was agreeing. Like a pirate. YAR.

From Rotoworld:

Curt Schilling reportedly got into a heated argument with Manny Ramirez on Wednesday after Ramirez refused to play on his promised off-day, even though the Sox were short a positional player because of Trot Nixon's injury.

David Ortiz had to step in and separate the two of them. This points out the rift that Manny Ramirez has made in the clubhouse and maybe a reason the Red Sox front office would be willing to take 90 cents on the dollar to get rid of him

Hmm...I love our odds if this is true

You may like our odds, but with (at least) five other teams vying for his services, and none of us really know if Hendry has just a passing interest, or has been on the phone constantly for the last 24 hours trying to swing something, do you really like our odds that much compared to the other teams?

I'm telling you...if I could email Hendry, I'd tell him to try and work out the 3 way deal with the Reds. Send Dunn to Boston with Mercker, and then they send us Weathers. We send Boston Hollandsworth, and Cinci Hill, Mitre, Leicester and Boston sends us Manny and Cincinatti Shoppach and Hanley Ramirez.

Cubs: Manny, Weathers and $10-15m.

Boston: Dunn, Hollandsworth, Mercker

Reds: Shoppach, Hill, H. Ramirez, Mitre and Leicester

Boston wouldn't give up Shoppach and Ramirez and only really get Dunn back.

Despite what some think, Sir Kent isn't a difference maker at the RP spot.

there is no way the Red Sox trade Manny to a contending team like the White Sox or the Angels. If they trade him, it would have to be to an NL team IMO. The Red Sox would really be desparate if they were to trade him to the White Sox or the Angels.

Man, maybe Hoops has a connection or something that he could get that to Hendry. I'd do that in a minute.

Boston wouldn't make that deal. They're giving up Manny, Shoppach and Hanley Ramirez and only getting Dunn, a 4th OF and Kent Mercker in return?

No way. The Reds are making out like kings in that deal.

They were about to give up more just to get Huff and Baez. You can replace Hanley with their pitching prospect, and I think you can get it done.

BTW, Kent is a good enough LOOGY to look really nice to a team like Boston who have pen issues.

Agreed. That looks real nice for everyone. Boston is giving up the most, no doubt, but what they're getting sets them up pretty well for the rest of the year.

They actually weren't getting Baez. They were getting Cameron, but that's beside the point. Point is they're giving up a TON of talent and only getting back one difference maker. That doesn't seem like a deal Theo would make to me.

The would also be shedding Manny's contract for 2006-7, when he's a 10-5 guy, and thus harder to deal. That would have value to Theo, since it would allow them to pursue Burnett in the offseason as well as other players.

It's also worth noting that the one difference maker they're getting is 25 years old.

Rotoworld announced early this morning that Colorado was getting Kelly Shoppach in exchange for newly acquired Larry Bigbie. Whether or not that deal has become official yet or not, I don't know.

I think the only realistic way to get Manny from the Sox without another team is for:

Patterson (Substitute for Cameron)

Burnitz (Substitue for Huff)

Hill (Icing on cake because C-Pat and Burny aren't as good as Cam & Huff)

The Sox would probably send us back a token prospect or take on a salary dump like Remlinger.

I would probably do this since Murton would take Burnitz' place. I think Burnitz would be important for the BoSox since they need a MLB ready guy to help them now. Patterson could replace Damon next year and Hill is a top prospect. It may look like too much, but I would probably do it.

Boy, that's a bad trade for the Sox...Bigbie is nothing special, and Shoppach is one of their better bargaining chips.

I heard about that somewhere, but just dismissed it since it seemed stupid.

I agree with that. And even though I'm not the Cubs GM, I would have gladly traded Hollandsworth AND Gerut to Boston for Shoppach. Shoppach would be another nice bargaining chip to get Adam Dunn.

I'm not so sure I want Murton replacing Burnitz. While he has been tearing this place up, he also hasn't been put in any tough spots in the lineup and doesn't have the experience that Burnitz brings with his excellent defense in right field. I remember Burnitz saying it was of the most difficult right fields to play in (Wrigely).

I don't know if I really agree with that. If we were "front-runners" for him, it would have been 95% specualtion and rumoring. One thing that is definitely similar though, is that the Cubs are one of 3-5 teams reportedly inquiring. I think JH definitely has a way of working his way into deals by recognizing other teams' desperation and weakness.

If you remember, though, the rumored deal centered around Clement for Nomar. Clement actually had to be calmed down by Hendry after his final start before the deadline, because he was convinced he was going to be traded and didn't want to be.
