Steve Stone on the Score just rementioned the ARam/Manny trade he proposed. Obviously there is nothing to it, he's just getting people to call in really

I wouldn't do Aram for Manny. Sure, Manny can post better stats, but would 10 hr and 40 rbi pmore per year (if that) plus a major attitude be worth $10 million more than the production we're already getting out of Aram? Not to me, it wouldn't be.

I dunno if anyone heard this, but my dad said on his way home he was listening to The Score, and Bruce Levine () said the BoSox offered Manny to the Cubs for Hill, Pie, and Burnitz   and the Cubs countered with Burnitz, Patterson, and Guzman or something like that. I didn't hear it so I'm not sure, but did anyone else hear it?

Depending on salary considerations and prospects, I might be interested in that deal the Cubs countered with.

Might? No might about it -- sign me up!

I would say yes, but Burnitz is honestly one of the better corner outfielders in the majors in terms of defense, and Manny is one of if not THE worst defensive outfielder in all of the major leagues. Also, Burnitz is a left, and when Nomar gets back, if we trade Burnitz that leaves us with one lefty in the lineup (walker), just like the 2004 Cubs, something that people certainly did not like.

ESPN NEWS SAYS IT HIT A ROAD BLOCK

Boston didn't want to give up that many prospects + Manny, went to Mets for more prospects or something, and Mets said no. They are at a stand still now.

Oh man. The Red Sox clubhouse will be a complete and utter zoo if Manny doesn't get traded by August 1st.

A source said the Red Sox felt they could not go ahead with trading Ramirez and two prime prospects -- reportedly catcher Kelly Shoppach and right-hander Anibal Sanchez -- if all they were receiving was New York's Cameron and Tampa Bay's Huff. So they went back to the Mets "for more pieces," the source reported. At that point, the Mets "squashed the whole thing" and talks broke off.

maybe theyll come to the cubs now?

Possible. I have a feeling Theo Epstein is sort of in the mode he was last year with Nomar...the fans are booing Manny, the Boston media is criticizing him, I think he'll try as hard as possible to deal him before the deadline. Hopefully JH makes an effort to get him.

More information that has been confirmed

"Sean McAdam just said on the UPN post-game show that FIVE teams contacted the Red Sox about Manny Ramirez. McAdam said that two of the teams are in the National League. He wouldn't get into the details about which players are involved, except to say that the talks are serious and ongoing. He said that the rumored three-way deal between the Mets and Devil Rays has been placed on the backburner and is the least likely of the five scenarios to come to fruition. He predicts that a deal will be done by Sunday because "where there's smoke, there's fire."

I would think we would obviously be one of the 2 NL teams hopefully

from Rotoworld:

The Providence Journal's Sean McAdam says there are five teams involved in talks with the Red Sox regarding Manny Ramirez and that the three-team trade with the Mets and Rays is the least likely scenario right now.

McAdam said two other NL clubs and two AL clubs, one the White Sox, are looking at Ramirez. We're guessing the Cubs and maybe the Dodgers are the NL clubs. The Angels would make sense as the other AL team.

hmm...I never thought about the Chi Sox being in contention for Manny, but that makes sense...with the Big hurt seemingly eternally hurt, they are in need of a big bat to power their offense and push them into the playoffs. Manny could be a good fit on the South Side...

Granted, that would really sting cubs fans, but if the Chi Sox could put together some prospects I could see them being a great dark horse team to land Manny from the BoSox.

If we get manny I will scream like a schoolgirl.

:willynilly:

i'll be smiling from ear to ear for probably the whole week :D

And people here will still be saying the Cubs offense sucks.

How old is Manny? Will the rest of his contract be during his peak years?

He turned thirty three in may.

manny is currently 33, and his contract looks like this

06: 19 M (34)

07: 18 M (35)

08: 20 M (36)

with an option for 09 and 10 at 20M

the only thing that worries me is that we could be overpaying manny by a huge margin in the last 2 years of his contract if he goes Sosa on us.

I think he is 33. I've heard that the contract is guaranteed until 2008 with options until 2010. I don't know anything else about it. We will definitely not get his peak years. He has been declining for a while.
