Well those quotes are exactly what I would expect Dusty to say. He's done that in basically every injury situation he's had since he's been here.

Nomar will play as much as he physically can when he's healthy.

I saw that article, and it nearly made me vomit. I'm glad that Neifi hit that grand slam, and that RBI single, but that doesn't make him a good player. I mean, if he's coming up with the bases loaded, I doubt the pitcher was doing that great a job to begin with. I hope Hendry tells Dusty to stop playing Neifi so much when we have Nomar back.

Nomar's worst year (of at least 100 atbats) was far better than Neifi's best. If Nomar sits when he gets back, Baker is a fool and deserves to be fired.

Baker gets a lot of criticism for in-game moves, but his inability to assess talent is his worst problem.

You should have seen the tape from last night. Brutal.

"It depends on how Nomar looks when he comes back," Baker said. "Neifi realizes when he came here, he came as a utility guy. I hear, 'Play [Ronny] Cedeno.' What am I supposed to do? Ditch Neifi? This guy saved us. I think Cedeno is going to be a fine player but sometimes you have to wait your turn. Sometimes you have to serve your apprenticeship."

Good thing players like Pujols didn't come up under Dusty. He might still be a platoon player right now.

baker's just bitter because he had to spend like 18 years in AAA before he got his shot. so now he thinks everyone else should have to do the same.

this is why he was a terrible choice for this job given the group of players he inherited.

LOL, Cedeno is no Pujols.

Honestly, how would we even know that since he never gets to play?

Just by looking at stick Cedeno and big balding bull Pujols. I mean c'mon....

You're missing the point. It blatantly doesn't matter how promising a young player is, he gets little shot under Dusty. I think it was Bob's Keeper that did the excellent study which is floating around somewhere in the archives, which showed that not once in Baker's managing career has he had a rookie under 26 win a starting job under him. Seriously. that's glaring.

The question was rhetorical.

But the point is valid, and that is that we don't know what kind of player Cedeño is unless he get significant PT. Now, when Nomar comes back, Neifi goes to the bench, and Cedeño goes to AAA-ball.

I guess that's not including pitchers. Or CP, who Dusty could've benched.

And Bobby Hill is in the minors, Hee Seop Choi sucks in LA, and the Cubs have been notorious for several years for being able to produce good pitchers but not good hitters out of their minor league system.

You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

I think you're missing the point that Cedeno, while talented, is hardly a can't miss player. He could easily be a utility infielder his whole career. He'll get his PT and a good player will take advantage of it.
