Bruce, what's with the Neifi love?

We under appreciate Neifi. He's a career sub who has filled in admirably. Let's not have short memories, Neifi and DLee were carrying the offense when Aramis and Corey were automatic outs early in the season.

Without going into the same debate again, I'll have to strongly disagree. Neifi did well in April, but he's regressed to his career numbers, which I don't want on the roster at all.

Nonsense.

Since May 1: .241/.261/.337/.598

Who's been worse?

I dont get your point. There was little alternative. Instead of picking out Neifi's May stats I think its much more appropriate to point out others, on the team, that are being paid to hit for average and drive in runs. Aramis had a horrible start to the season and so did Barrett. Plus, Todd Walker's bat was also out of the lineup which compounded the problem. The bottom line is, Neifi Perez isn't paid to get the big hits. There is no reason to be angry with him. However, one could take issue with Dusty keeping him at the top of the lineup once he started to struggle.

Paging Ronny Cedeno...??

Oh.. and you hit the nail on the head on that last point.

I'm not mad at Neifi. He seems like a good guy, from what I've seen. My issue is with Dusty playing Neifi, and letting poor Ronny C, who might actually have a future in the major leagues, rot on the bench.

neifi perez has been nothing special on defense this year at all

Sorry, but he's made several great plays for the Cubs this year. The most recent one being the screaming liner from Pujols.

????????????

i can catch line drives hit right at me

Yes, Neifi has saved quite a few games with his glove.

Who's been worse?

Cory Patterson for one.

Nope, actually 50 points better in OPS, but he's been deemed not good enough to be on a major league roster at that level of production. Yet Neifi has praise heaped upon him for being worse since his hot start. I should have clarified though, I was referring to infielders when I asked who was worse, since you claimed he was the best reserve.

This is a prime example of why I'm glad the Cubs look at more than just selective stats. I guess you just ignore defense, but hey that's ok. Your're entitled to your opinion, I just disagree. CPat is where he belongs BTW.

Interesting that you would use the "defense" argument for Neifi while you trash talk Patterson, easily our best defensive outfielder and one of the better fielders in the league.

OK, so that wasn't that hard of a play, but the point I'm trying to make is that Neifi is and always has been a good defensive player.

I really have to take issue with the people that say Neifi is the worst offensive player in recent baseball history...

Rey Ordonez, anyone?

Not so funny is the fact that both have hit at the top of our order in the last couple of years.

The Cubs weren't going to bring up Cedeno in MJay. first off, every player goes into a slump. If a manager started sitting players..

OMG The Astros win on a walk off homer by Lamb. WTF????

Can we split this Neifi nonsense into another thread? Neifi might be rivaling Adam Dunn and Corey Patterson soon for pointless arguments we've had 1000 times.

Dude, they're crafty, speedy, veterens, man. Dude, man, Dusty needs his speed guys at the top of the order, man.

You wouldn't happen to be XCubsX from ITI, would you? Ugh, no wonder I don't post on that board anymore.

Ronny Cedeno. And people aren't angry with Neifi Perez. They're angry with Dusty for playing him over a kid who was hitting .370 in AAA and sticking him in the 2 hole.

Exactly. Neifi saved our butts in April and May, but it has been clear for quite a while that Neifi isn't cutting it offensively, and that's an understatement. Now some people may have the warm fuzzies over his two big hits recently, but the reality is that Dusty's insitence on playing him over Cedeno has been really hurting the club. Neifi may be a better defender, but only maginally so. Certainly not enough to make up for how much better a hitter Cedeno is.

I am not mad at Neifi, he is what he is. But he along with Hollandsworth need to be on the bench, and that is Dusty's fault.

Neifi's not in a slump... he's just being the player that he is, which is below average. It's silly to keep starting Neifi regardless of his poor performance.

Ok sorry to break up this Neifi debate, but is the rain stopped in Chicago?

It's stopped at Wrigley, yes.

Do you know if they've taken off the tarp yet?

People haven't watched many games if you think Neifi has not been special on defense this year. I love how a rookie is "know" as a great defender before he steps on the field from the minors. I don't know how many times I saw on this board how Dubois was as good as Holla on defense. Keep dreaming or please watch some games objectively. I don't care if you don't like the guy but give me a break he has been rock solid on defense, no complaints
