A nice come-from-behind victory in game 1 of the series. Hopefully, they'll keep it up a win another one cause I really would like to start a game thread on my birthday (27th) :P...seriously.

Go Cubs!....yah, I dont hate the Cubs anymore -- just overly frustrated at many occassions as usual.

I think its very important that we sweep this series, as the Giants are really weak this year....especially the lineup. These are the types of games playoff teams win. So lets do it!

You need the full one, with the other, nearly as ridiculous sign he has in his other hand.

Noteworthy Match-ups (San Francisco Giants) Vs. Greg Maddux (RHP, 8-7 with 4.55 ERA)

http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/3547/gvg0yj.jpg

The current Giants are hitting .265 Vs. Maddux (without Barry Bonds) No Barry Bonds facing Greg Maddux could equal a win.

Noteworthy Match-ups (Chicago Cubs) Vs. Noah Lowry (LHP, 6-10 with 4.69 ERA)

http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/8215/lvc9cr.jpg

Prediction based on Match-ups: Well, Greg Maddux knows a lot about Giants hitters. On the other hand, Lowry is young and has only faced the Cubs once. Therefore, I'm undecided.

PBOM Record: 4-3

Five innings, get the W for Maddux, 3000th K and less IP/Start in hopes the potential of the option vesting lessens.

I dont understand why everyone wants him gone. Yes, he is getting old, and Yes, he can be bad at times. But the man still manages to get us 15+ wins a year, which is more than we can say about any other starter we have on this so called "Staff of Aces." He also makes the rest of the pitching staff better (exe: Mitre, and whoever is young)

I'd rather see the Maddux money spent on a guy like Brian Giles who can put up a .400 OBP at the top of the lineup in front of the boppers in the middle. Maddux isn't all that much better (if he is at all) than Mitre, Hill, Williams at this point.

Words cannot describe how much I do NOT want that option to vest.

Simply a waste of money that could be used on filling another gap (outfield most notably).

Right now he's just behind Zambrano (like 3 innings) to be 2nd place for IP among Cubs pitchers. It'd be foolish to cut him off. Find me another pitcher with such defense and knowledge of the game, and such a long-standing history of reaching 15 wins. He almost always gives you a quality start.

Anyway, lets hope this game is a blowout and we cream the Giants. Dempster has pitched three days in a row, and needs a rest.

For 9 million dollars, I expect a little more than a 4.50 ERA "almost always", since that's what a quality start is(albeit at its worst). However, Maddux isn't even close to "almost always" pitching a quality start.

2004: 19 QS in 33 starts, 57%

2005: 12 QS in 21 starts, 57%

So, what are the odds that Maddux will be either miked up, or WGN microphone will be loud enough for us to hear his foul-mouth?

as much as i love maddux, he is going to be horribly overpayed next year, his stuff is gone, and i woudnt be suprised to see him retire if the cubs go deep into the post season this year

Thank you. I stand by my gross mispelling (sp?) of the word. It adds to the flavor of the insult.

So what do you expect for $12 mill?

2004 12 QS in 22 starts, 55%

2005 3 QS in 10 starts, 30%

Do we give you the win if its a one run game, then, or goes to extras?

Go Cubs.

I appreciate the compiling of these stats and sharing them with us. However, I think it may be more useful to edit out players' stats who have little to no chance of playing in the current days game. Especially if you are going to do the Prediction based on matchup, because it can skew the overall numbers greatly. For example, Sanchez, Rueter, Fopert, Fassero and Tomko are not going to face Maddux today. (I do understand keeping someone like Bonds' stats in, however.)

But hey its your tables do it how you want, only a suggestion.
