This thread sure has a whole lot of everything, doesn't it? The whole NSBB experience in a nice little nutshell.

This thread highlights all the great reasons to sign up for NSBB Premium.

But even more than that, it really highlights all the reasons many of us never will.

And I'll just leave it at that.

If I may offer an unsolicited suggestion: It would probably be a good idea for several of the participants in this thread to relax, set aside the indignation, insecurity, condescension, sarcasm and bloodlust, take a second to reflect on their posts when this thread finally reaches its conclusion, and consider the possibility that their words might be keeping Tim in the red to a greater extent than their premium subscription fee is pushing him closer to the black. That the traits they put on display daily do more to undermine the efforts they claim to support than any solitary (assumed) "troll" could even approach.

Perhaps while you're at it, you might consider the *gasp* positive effects of the traffic, new registrations, general excitement and galvanizing effect on the "community" that this low-down, dirty, nasty "troll" has brought about. Ironic, isn't it?

Like I said, just a suggestion. What do I know? Feel free to dismiss out of hand and rejoin your regularly-scheduled posse.

I never said SE said it was a rumor. I said he/she passed it on. The only disparity I see is that SE claimed it came from the organization instead of the media (as the Chicago media claims). That's hardly conclusive evidence of trolling.

No my friend that is pretty convincing evidence he was a troll.

Whatever. I'm done with this nonsense.

What evidence? Why is it such a secret? This isn't Watergate and we're not talking about Woodward and/or Bernstein.

The mods and admins found reason to believe he was trolling outside of his posting record here, more than one of them has said so. If they feel it was necessary/appropriate to share what that is, then they might do so.

GO BACK AND RE-READ HIS POSTS

First he posted the thread title as a fact not a rumor. Californiarasian101 then changed the title to reflect that it was indeed a rumor.

Then in the post he claims to know someone that knows someone. Classic trollish post.

Then he is gone for a while and comes back with enough information to keep the thread going. In the meantime he never posted in another thread, check his posting history. One does not have to be a genius to spot this jackass for who he really is.

There is no secret. We've seen this stuff dozens of times. Trolling is just getting more sophisticated.

I was on the ESPN.com website for years and this kind of stuff would happen all the time. The MO is the same just the particulars are different. This one was dressed up.

Although I have no proof I fully believe that the rumor started here. Miles picked it up made a few inquiries and it moved on from there. It is all cirucular one story/question feeds the next and so on.

Believe what you want.

You believe the rumor started here? I REALLY don't think so.

If anything, I think we've established that this rumor circulated somehow in Cincy and that's where sweetemotion got it from. Instead of saying it was a rumor being circulated, he just said he had a source.

Miles didn't pick up on it and ask Hendry from what I understand. Bruce saw this thread, and decided he would help us out by telling us that he knew there was no interest in a deal like that from the Cubs perspective.

The report in the Daily Southtown today says "There was a rumor from the Cincinnati media the Reds were offering Dunn for Hill, Mitre and Patterson." Hal and Marty also don't strike me as the kind of guys who would frequent message boards, especially this one.

This rumor started in Cincinnati somehow. sweetemotion probably saw that and thought he could pass it off here as a fact through a false inside source.

Let me start by saying that I appreciate the discussion in regards to the site. IMHO, sharing thoughts and ideas on the site conveys a desire to make the site as great as possible. Yes, NSBB is groiwng, and with growth come certain "growing pains." Just in the last week our registered user total has increased and yesterday I saw as many as 240 people viewing the site at once.

However, with the growth comes more responsibility. Posters must learn more users and the Admins/Mods must traffic more posts per day.

I am one of the newer Mods on the site (with brinoch) and can honestly say that I have learned so much since becomig a Mod. I don't want to turn this into a praise the Admins/Mods love fest but I do want to reiterate that the Admins/Mods try hard to grant everyone as much freedom as possible while sticking within the guidelines.

Nope, nothing new that I'm aware of.

Does anyone else find this all to be soooooooo incredibly strange.....the whole situation is just weird!! :?

1) Guy comes in with a new rumor about Dunn and is adominant about this being fact. Stated everything very nicely and seemed real genuine IMO

2) A radio announcer talks about this same trade on the air--I have never heard another announcer talking about something like that. And the fact that he describes the exact same deal is just too strange to not be "something"

3) Even with this on-air, Bruce Miles comes in and says there is nothing to it and it is not a rumor. Remember, he didn't say that Hendry turned down the deal, he said there was no deal exchanged.

4) The initial poster is banned from this board and nobody seems to know why--like I said he seems to be very genuine and even if the trade falls through, we all must admit he was not outrageous in his claims.

All of this just reaks of suspicion for me. I am going to bed, but I have a feeling that tomorrow is going to be a very interesting day. I truly thinks this was in the works, but it was not supposed to get out before the teams were done playing and now they are damage controlling...................or it is all just cockamamie!!!! I guess we will see after the game tomorrow....................

oh ya, by the way, that is a fairly large game for us tomorrow--6-2 against pirates/reds is real good, but 5-3 hardl does much for me!!

See you all tomorrow

I know this thread has morphed into a greater discussion on the freedoms of posting on NSBB but if anyone is interested, and has a subscription to MLB's Gameday Audio, you can listen to the Reds (WLW) call from yesterday's game where Marty and Steve talk briefly about the off-air discussion they had with Jim Hendry. The trade topic starts at 1 hour and 14 mintues into the programming.

To Summarize, Marty said he asked Hendry about the rumor of a Dunn trade for CPat, Mitre, and Hill. According to Marty Brenneman, Hendry said it was too steep and both Marty and Steve agreed that including Hill in the deal was too high of a price for Dunn considering Hill is now the best arm in our system...

Edit: Also included in the radio discussion was a reporter Hal Mc Coy

Question: What in the hell are Brenneman and McCoy doing agreeing with an opposing GM that the price for one of their players is too steep? Doesn't that strike anyone else as odd?

Just think O'Brien were in the Cub booth and Ron and Pat said, "Yeah, you should really get more for Dunn than Mitre, CPatt and Hill." Even worse, imagine if Steve Stone said it!

I understand your point but I think they were being honest because they understand the value of Hill. For all their problems, both Patterson and Mitre can play in the majors (no doubt Corey would still be in the Bigs if he played elsewhere) and Rich Hill is a frontline prospect. Maybe we as fans are overvaluing Dunn by thinking we should readily giveup 2 major league players and a number one prospect for him...

O'Brien is an idiot. According the the Reds announcers (on the Gameday Audio 1hr 14 mins into yesterday's game) they think the trade idea was floated to Hendry b/c he "had that smile on his face." The announcers also talked to the scouts that visit the Reds and the consensus opinion from them is that the Reds don't have a clue what they are doing from one day to the next.

Exactly! Brenneman and McCoy also hinted that O'Brien was being unreasonable with his asking price and flip flopping because O'Brien stated that he wasn't going to trade young players (including Dunn) yet he is obviously entertaining the idea of trades.

On another note, there is another report/rumor that the Reds have inquired about trading Adam Dunn for the Indians' CC Sabathia straight up. I just heard it at the beginning of the 7/19 MLB Gameday Audio broadcast for WLW. The report was not confirmed by the Reds but if true, Hendry would definitely be giving up too much in Patterson, Mitre, and Hill.

That can't be true. The Reds recently turned down a trade for Sabathia for Joe Randa. Dunn>>>>>>>Randa

I'm just telling you what they said on the radio in Cincy. You're welcome to check out the broadcast.

No. I'm not saying you're giving false info. I think the report is false. Sorry for the confusion.

According to who? I saw one guy on this board say that, but there was never a source.

The only time I heard Sabathia mentioned in a trade with the Reds was for Dunn and that was speculated on last week and earlier this week.

There's no way the Reds would turn down Sabathia for Randa straight up.
