You ever notice how everytime the catcher or the manager goes to the mound to visit with a pitcher, Neifi pops in on the conversation?

He doesn't even wait for the others anymore, the goofball initiated 3-4 meetings himself today in the (thankfully) short time he was in there.

this is ridiculous, perez was signed as a back up ss and has played quite well. saying he is one of the worse hitters in baseball is a thing of stupidity, compare his stats with some of the other shortstops in baseball and maybe some of you will realize how ridiculous you are. some of you never met a prospect you didn't love. like steve stone said on the score a couple of nites ago. a prospect is just that a prospect or a suspect and you trade prospects any day for a proven player. i read this board a lot and it seems have of the posters are l5 yeearold kids

If you remove all punctuation and just make your posts into one long, run-on sentence, you will be my new favorite poster.

Wow, I haven't read a pro-Neifi post in a while. All his other fans on this board deserted him, so I'll give you points for standing by him.

I love how you used the l for a 1. Nice touch.

I decided to compare Neifi's stats as you would like and this is what I came up with. Out of qualifying SS's, Perez ranks 13th of 20 in BA, 18th of 21 in OBP, 10th of 20 in SLG, and 14th of 20 in OPS. Considering he played way over his head in April and early May, his career numbers indicate those rankings will continue to drop. Neifi may not be the worst offensive shortstop by the end of the season, but he's going to be close.

I don't blame Perez for this. It's who he is. He's a defensive substitute. Our problem is that we had a manager that hit him for a large portion of the season at the top of the order. That's inexcusable. Hopefully Nomar returns soon and healthy, because I've had my fill of Neifi.

I may be 15, but I know enough not to let 17 year old punks like yourself intimidate me.

Based on his command of punctuation and syntax, I was thinking 13. :-k

how about rbi's and runs scored, don't they count. despite what many of you may believe, many baseball people such as santo and stone have stated on many occasions, these are the two things that count, how many runs have you scored and driven in. by the way i am not a neifi supporter. i just don't like seeing a player who i feel is playing quite well both offensively and defensively treated like he is a cancer on the team and the cause of all the problems. he is far from being one of the problems on this team. and by the way for you macias haters . 250 isn't to bad for a pinch hitter.

neifi is 7th among nl shortstops in rbi and 8th in runs scored. even team-based stats show neifi is below average.

if you think neifi is doing "quite well" offensively, i can't wait to see the words you use to describe lee's season.

He's 14th in both RBI's and runs. That 14th in runs is pretty pitiful considering all the times he hit in front of Lee. I'm sure he'll drop in those. You really should look these things up before you erroneously assume the stats support this weak argument.

People are a little testy tonight, aren't they? :D

Well, it happens whenever the Cubs lose. I'm still testy, and I could post several things on the "Dusty Bad Managerial" Thread, but I'm just too afraid to post it there, becuase, well.... let's just say it won't be pretty.

Neifi gets on base 28% of the time. That's just not good.

That about sums it up.

I really never liked Neifi. First time I ever heard of him when the Royals traded Jermaine Dye for Neifi. That is when the Royals got labled as the laughingstock of baseball, a title they retain to this day. I guarentee you, if you ever met up a Royal fan, and discuss about baseball, like who was the best, and who was the worst, etc. I guarentee you that Neifi Perez will make a Royal fan very upset. Any knowledgeable person would start Chico Lind over Neifi Perez.

Neifi's stats for the Royals in 2002

.236 BA/ .260 OBP/ .303 SLG

Brutal.

I've vented there tonight ... come trash Dusty with the rest of us.

I realize Perez won a Gold Glove in Colorado, but I don't think of him as a very good defensive infielder any longer. He has fairly sure hands, but very limited range.

I saw him make 2 errors in a game against the Nationals this season and there were some balls hit in his direction that Cedeno was getting to earlier in the game before Neifi moved over to short as a "late inning defensive move".

I thought one of the many reasons Kansas City got rid of him was that his fielding range had gone down drastically from his Colorado days.

I know Perez has this "Gold Glove" reputation, but I just don't see it anymore. Seems to me that Cedeno can field the position better than Perez since he can cover a lot more ground.

i love the ball that kearns put up the middle during yesterday's game. range does matter. cedeno knocks that ball down at the very least.

i don't mean to rag on Neifi. i think he is next to worthless, but every team has those types of players. he was never intended to start this many games. dusty is the idiot who keeps trying to hammer the square peg into the round hole.

The bottom line is that Neifi makes an out nearly 71% of the itmes he comes to the plate. That, my friends, is beyond bad. it's gawd-awful.

In baseball, offense is about not making outs. If you send ten hitters to the plate and make fewer outs per ten hitters than the other team (assuming your hitters are of at least average major league quality), you should, over the course of a season, score more runs than your opposition.

When a guy is hitting 1st or second for a third of a season for you and makes an out 71% of the times he bats, you're automatically behind the 8-ball.

Oh yeah- I think he's a solid fielder. No complaints about his defense. It's not highlight-reel good, but it's definitely not a weakness.

I loved it when Brenly pointed out that Neifi took a terrible line towards the Kearns ball. He basically said Neifi should have at least knocked that ball down, but Neifi took a very shallow line towards that ball and it got by him. Neifi sucks.

I agree with this. Not to say Perez is below average at short, but just that his reputation is overstated, and that Cedeno would likely be as good defensively.
