Wild Card

Braves 50-40 (.556 - playing Mets)

Phillies 46-44 (.511 - playing Marlins)

Mets 45-44 (.506 - playing Braves)

Marlins 44-43 (.506 - playing Phillies)

Astros 44-43 (.506 -playing Cardinals)

Cubs 45-44 (.506 - already won)

So with 4 of the 5 teams in front of us playing eachother, ground will be definately be gained on at 2 teams. And the team tied with the Cubs is playing the number 1 team in the NL.

Sips Kool-Aid, I can't believe I'm saying it but we are right in the thick of things.

P.S. we still suck, alot

P.S.S. The Cubs 5 game winning streak is the longest in MLB, if the A's win tonight they would also have a 5 game winning streak

P.S.S.S. To break up the optimisim, man do we suck!

I only want to jump in front of 2. If we jump in front of 3, that means the braves win.

True, and if the Braves lose, we'd be 4 games back (just imagine if they could have salvaged at least 1 of those games in ATL)

the cubs have to be the flakiest team in the major leagues. they have looked beyond great during this five game winning streak, but looked unbelievably awful during the losing streak. remember how terrible they looked before prior went down against the rockies? then, just like that, they started playing like a team that was a contender. i'd like to get my hopes up again and say that the cubs are going to start their run at the wild card right now, but i can't be sure with such a schizophrenic team.

This thread defines the phrase "guarded optimism."

I was at today's game. Everyone was excited about today's win. Yet everyone also wondered which team is going to show up tomorrow. I'd love to think we have a great shot at keeping this winning streak alive. But this is the 2005 Cubs we're talking about. They're still very capable of losing four in a row.

They're too consistently inconsistent.

The most hopefull thing is that with Hairston and Walker at the top of the order, its easily the best everyday lineup we've put on the field this year.

Put the Nationals in this thread and take out the Braves.... the Braves are going to win the NL East, just like they always do.

Precisely. Let the Braves get hot, go on a big run in the second half, then beat up on the Nationals, Phillies, Mets, and Marlins.

The Nationals aren't winning that division. Book it.

Welcome to my world, I have been feeling the same way since the Cubs got Nomar and regressed into suckatude shortly after. I have no faith for this team to play like the contenders they are built to be. Sure little winning streaks like this increase the optimism a bit, but mostly I wait for the other shoe to drop, because every single time in the past 2 seasons (or you could argue 97 years), it has

No, it's not over. Five out can be made up in half a season. Twelve out can't.
