Only three RBI's behind Carlos Lee now after his 3 RBI's today, Derrek Lee is aiming to head into the All-Star break still on-pace to win the Triple Crown. Man, another HR too today, bringing him up to 27. and his RBI total is now at 71, which is just flat-out ridiculous. He's only 29 away from 100 and we havent even made it to the All-Star break yet??

I am becoming increasingly convinced that he cant be stopped this season and will have more than a career year. hendry is so lucky he's stepped up like this and he couldnt possibly have predicted it. i think he was expecting to get the production lee has given more from nomar garciaparra, but by the grace of God derrek lee has become one of the most dominating players in the entire league.

Yes folks, two HR's this weekend has the talk back on. Lee for President in 08!!

He will definitely be close. His RBI pace is definitely going to heat up with Hairston and Walker now hitting in front of him. Plus, he was probably playing hurt for a lil bit, but will bounce back with the rest and the days off for the all-star break.

What's ridiculous is we've hit the break and he's just 5 shy of his career high in HR

Yup, 32 from last year. Already half of the season, he has 27. Looks like Lee can be a 50+ HR hitter if he continues this pace.

It'll be interesting to see how many intentional or unintentional-intentional walks he'll be receiving in the 2nd half of the season.

Moving ARam up to 4th would be helpful if that starts to happen

He's been hitting 4th recently.

Well, yesterday and today's game, Aramis was batting 4th. with Barrett batting 5th, and Burnitz batting 6th. I think, how our line-up is constructed, the 1 to 6 doesn't bother me that much. It's the 7th to 8th batters that I'm worried.

I didnt have the pleasure of watching the Cubs sweep the Marlins today, but I did read the recap on MLB.com and it said DLEE has passed Sosa in most total bases (225) and most extra base hits (54) in the first half of a season. I hope I never have to bite my tongue on this but this guy could be our franchise player. Believe it or not St. Louis fans and sports commentators are giving DLEE mad props. What am I talking about, how could you not?????

that's why its amazing to me that phil rogers still picks Albert as the 1st half MVP. He is unreal.

Let's get this straight Phil. Pujols and Clark deserve to win those MVP's, Pujols because he's close in the triple crown stats and because of Runs Created. Clark in 1987 had 164 RC to Dawson's 178. Clark deserved to win his MVP because he lead the league in OBP and SLG. Lee: .452 OBP .733 SLG, Pujols: .424 OBP, .598 SLG. Well, as long as you're consistently contradicting, I guess there's not too much of a problem.

Will he be starting in the ASG or did he back out because of his shoulder?

Yes as a matter of fact the reason he took an extra day was to ensure that he would feel ok to start for his first ever All Star game. He did refuse the HRD (obviously).

I love where phil says they're very close in avg with pujols only 35 points behind.....ONLY 35 points behind????? Granted in the .300's either is fantastic but 35 points can be the difference between neifi and nomar.....

Statistically, they entered the weekend very close in the major batting categories. Lee was 35 points ahead in average (.377-.342), three homers ahead (25-22) and two runs batted in behind (69-67) Pujols.

Tribune baseball reporter Phil Rogers thinks Albert Pujols is the NL’s MVP so far. Do you agree?

17.2%

Yeah, Pujols is a good choice (344 responses)

82.8%

Derrek Lee all the way (1661 responses)

That was the poll from the Tribune's poll about Rogers choice.

So 82.8% of people think Rogers is a moron? I guess that's good enough.

Rogers is only saying that because the Cards are heading for the playoffs and the Cubs probably are not.

And, unfortunately, the prize usually goes to the best player on a playoff team. It takes a truly special season to overcome that barrier. Lee is having that kind of season so far---but there's a long way to go.

Also, never underestimate the power of Cub hatred in the National media. Lee has an uphill climb ahead of him.

Still---what an incredible season for an amazing ballplayer.

I agree with you to an extent. I think it would be much easier to look past DLEE if he was having a debatebly good season. Look at his numbers. Any somewhat educated baseball fan cannot deny the first half of the season he has had. Keep in mind those numbers dont even represent the kind of defense he has played. I think, if DLEE preforms equally as well the second half of the season, he will be a strong MVP candidate.

I agree. he will see his RBI numbers increase as Dusty finally realized guys with OBPs lower than their weight should not bat in the top 2 spots in the order.

My favorite part of that is when Phil says that Pujols edges out Lee in runs created. I think "wait, that doesn't sound right." Then in the next sentence, I found out that he was referring to the made-up-by-Phil-Rogers version of runs created. Does he not know that its a real stat? And one in which Derrek leads by a pretty good margin? And that that stat actually means something, while his means close to nothing?

It's a shame when one of the 1-2 hitters will have to sit when Patterson comes back.

can somebody please take him to the woodshed? (i dont mean really beat him, only in word). somebody right a rebuttle to be posted... Bruce Miles, where are you? You don't have to actually mention Rogers, but a piece on DLee leading in Runs Created would be great...

ok, maybe not BM, because I know he has too much dignity and respect to do that. But somebody needs to call him out for this, because this is really just him LYING. Thats all it is.
