Ever since his move to the bullpen, I believe he has given up a run each time out there. Do you think this is Glendon reverting back to old crappy Glendon? He was stellar as a starter for most of the season, but in the bullpen he has been very unreliable.

After looking at the box score, and nothing else, I see that Glendon gave up 2 more runs today. I pose this question again. Do you you think he is done for us as an effective starter/reliever?

He has given up at least 1 ER in his last 9 appearances. What do you all think?

I think it's part of dead arm that he has. Not sure what the cause is, but I'm assuming that he might have been overused perhaps. Also the move from starter to bullpen can mess with some people's pyschological mind I would guess.

Let's see how he'll perform with some days off and I'll get back to you on that.

I think it's more a matter of getting regular work for Rusch. I didn't mind so much early in the season when the Cubs had a seven man bullpen. Guys were learning roles and generally getting consistent work (mainly when Bartosh was around and pitching about once a week). But there's one too many down there right now and guys aren't getting regular work. Before Rusch's inning today, he pitched to just two batters Thursday night--both of whom got hits--and a third of an inning a week ago, when he faced three batters, two of whom reached base. If he gets regular work, he's much more effective.

I think if a releiver is traded away in the next couple of weeks, the roster spot will likely be taken by a batter.

I always thought this year Rusch was living on borrowed time. How a guy with his WHIP was still being an effective starter was beyond me. But it has caught up with him over the past month. I hate that we have 12 pitchers, especially since it looks as if Wood and Prior are really healthy, and we have at least three of our five starters able to get us deep into games. Although Rusch's numbers aren't great, I would think he would be an attractive option for other teams.

I don't mind having 12 pitchers, the problem is that Dusty lets them all pitch in major league baseball games.

Okay, maybe 12 is a bit much. Maybe we can go back to having 3 catchers that was productive and effective, er, um...

I just think he flourishes more for us as a starter. I'd have no problem with him taking over at the 5 spot and putting JW in the pen.

And I have no problem dealing him to a contender in need of some relief help or a lefty pitcher for the stretch. Rusch was a godsend in the rotation for us this year and last year as a spot starter, but he has not done great recently and its time to sell while we can get value for him. I'm sure the Rangers or Yankees would be interested.

Rusch was necessary to spot start/start last season and early this year. Now, however, I feel comfortable with Mitre or Williams filling the spot starter role. If they can get something of value for GR, I'd be willing to part with him. Because like others have said, he's not as efficient as a reliever.

Maybe he just needs a rest or something. The last time he had a break was after he went 1-13 for the Brewers. He came back dealing. Try the same thing again maybe?

I hate to unload lefties. Especially ones you know can be effective if their stuff is right.

Hopefully the break will benefit Glendon and he can come back strong in the 2nd half. We really need a push from our bullpen if we are to get back in the WC race.

Thanks for illustrating my point. As you can see not effective.

Rusch had better shape up or he could be the next person to receive the wrath of the Wrigley fans. With CPatt in Des Moines, who else will the fans have to boo now? My guess is that if Rusch keeps pitching the way he has, he's next. Will he or will he not fall in with Alfonseca, Sosa, Hawkins and Patterson? I guess time will tell.

I don't know if the common fan pays that much attention? He still has a respectable era, and based on his early heroic perfomances I bet he slides under the radar for quite a while.

This thread will be resurrected until it is made fully aware of how awful Rusch has been the last month +. He has become worse than Remlinger as an effective reliever.

When will people start to turn on him? He definately needs some readjustments. Perhaps he will fill Wood's spot in the rotation, and redeem himself.

Updated stat line on Rusch since returning to the pen......

06/24 - 07/20 IP H R ER BB K HR PC BB/9 K/9 HR/9 WHIP ERA
Rusch 7.7 14 12 11 3 7 3 183 3.52 8.22 3.52 2.22 12.91

He's actually improved over the last 10 days.... hard as that is to imagine.

Even last year Rusch wasn't that great from the pen. Now that Kerry Wood is injured though he will have his cake and eat it too. Make or break time for Rusch as far as I'm concerned.
