  1. So, if I want to follow the winter meetings, and you say to update your favorite baseball site, which site(s) do you recommend? I'm clearing my calendar for next week.
  2. Brad Nelson, from Algona Iowa by the way, played first base all through his career in the minors, then being blocked by Prince at first, moved to the outfield. He made their playoff roster and has always swung a good bat. He might have a shot at first should they trade the big guy.
  3. Since I'm just flat out too cheap to be an "Insider" for ESPN.com, I was wondering what Peter Gammon's blog stated with the title, "Cubs to get another pitcher." My guess is that it's nothing that hasn't already been posted here since NSBB people are actually better informed than Gammons but was just wondering. Mod: Please feel free to move this to the appropriate thread. Let's win another one tonight - if I can make it past 10:30 to watch :amen:
  4. Rich will be ok. As you can see by the number of postings, I mostly read and don't post much but I gotta tell ya, this thread has made me laugh out loud. I love the sarc, particularly when it's not too over the top. Subtle, real subtle. :amen:
  5. How is it that the talk is all about Marshall and we still have Marquis on the roster? If anyone is replace with Dempster, shouldn't it be Marquis? For cryin out loud, he wasn't even on the playoff roster!
  6. Could it maybe have something to do with the number of times Ryu and Guzman are called up? Maybe with the number of options left? Don't know, just grasping here.
  7. I don't know much about Izturas(sp) and I don't really care to. I think Ronnie Cedeno is going to be the real deal. The most important number (and it's been posted here before) is 23, as in year's old. He's still a pup who will grow into a very good major league shortstop. I just hope the fans at Wrigley will not jump all over him like they did with CPatt when things went bad and end up jeering him out of the organization. I really enjoy reading this board without posting much but it does seem to get a bit negative at times. We're suppose to be Cubs fans. I'll be the first to admit that it's been a lousy year but let's not give up on our young talent. We'll be ok. Thanks
  8. You guys on this board know these things way more than I, but does anyone know the Cubs records when Neifi starts vs when Neifi doesn't start or even get in the game? It's gotten to the point that if he's in the lineup, I don't like our chances. My hope is that Walk plays second when Nevin gets here and Neifi is relagated to the pinch hit in the fifth inning when we're behind kind of role.
  9. I appreciate all the input. I will be definitelyl checking out all the other papers and websites mentioned. I enjoy reading the stories on the Cubs, but frankly, the best way to spend some time with the Cubs is with you all on this site. Thanks everyone.
  10. As you can see from my information, I have been a card carrying member for many years, including a move to the Iowa Great Lakes two years ago, yet I don't post much. It's too much fun to read everyone else's materials. Anyway, I don't want to cause any controversy yet every morning when I wake up at 5, I read three different versions of the same thing - Cub information from the Tribune, the Herald and the Sun Times. It seems that all of the quotes are the same and so are the story lines. Which paper is preferred by everyone here? I know Bruce Miles has graced the forums on occasion so I like to read him, the Trib is the only one I know that shows the box score on line and the Sun Times seems to have the most stories. Not that I'm crunched for time, just wondering if I had to read only one Chicago newspaper on the Cubs, which one would be best? Anxiously awaiting answers.
  11. For whatever reason, I'll miss watching him play as he was one of the "younger" players able to get some p.t. with Dusty. Also saw him play in Des Moines a few years ago and at that time, he was very exciting. I hope he regains his spark again in Baltimore. BTW, I really hope Grissom doesn't make the team.
  12. I really hope that Jimbo keeps Prior. Injuries? I know about the elbow tendenitis but the broken arm was a fluke as was the collision a couple of years ago. I feel pretty good with Cedeno at short. Still pretty optimistic about the chances this summer 8)
  13. With all that has been said about Damon, he does kind of fit into the mold of the type of players Dusty likes, a "proven" veteran on the downhill (albeit slightly) slide. I'm surprised with Dusty's penchant for these types of players that someone like Shannon Stewart's name hasn't popped up more :D
  14. Wasn't that obvious yesterday when a runner tags up and moves to second on a medium fly ball to center? I'm still scratching my head, unless he has something on Dusty and is blackmailing him.
  15. Rusch had better shape up or he could be the next person to receive the wrath of the Wrigley fans. With CPatt in Des Moines, who else will the fans have to boo now? My guess is that if Rusch keeps pitching the way he has, he's next. Will he or will he not fall in with Alfonseca, Sosa, Hawkins and Patterson? I guess time will tell.
