Does anybody else see this thread balloon to 35 pages by 6 am?

Heh heh, good try though :D

I know, right? People weren't exactly in a froth, posting all night about this. I'm shocked this thread has so many responses actually. It's not like the Nomar trade...

I think Tree needs to make a Photo Shop story to get this thing rolling.

I disagree with BleedCubbieBlue. If Pie was healthy, I think he would be in a Cubs uniform instead of Greenie. For once, maybe Gammons was right all along.

Can Murton play Jesus this time??? :D

Like others have said I think this could be a precursor to other moves. I would think both Hollandsworth and Burnitz' value are probably as high as they are going to be right now. Burnitz has had a solid year, better than I think anyone here has expected, and Hollandsworth is arguably (Ramirez) our hottest hitter right now with D. Lee out. Just a hunch, but I think you will probably see one of them moved in the near future.

I also think that Todd Walker's name might be of interest to a few teams.

Wow, So i wake up this morning, go do some work at the church, then come back and turn on the TV. I hear "Pattersona nd dubois sent to minors, Greenberg and Murton brought up"

First thing that went through my head was "DUST GOT FIRED???"

So I come on here, and still no dusty fired thread. Oh well, This is an interesting move, definatley. I'm not sure what to make of it though. Are we packing it in, and playing the youth? Is this a pre cursor to baker getting a pink slip? Pre Cursor to a trade? I dont know.

Oh, I agree that if Pie didn't get hurt, he'd be in the bigs. But I also think it would be too soon to bring him up. They brought CPatt up too soon, and it hasn't worked yet, so I'd be cautious with a future star like Pie.

Haha, Where is hoops when we need him???

I dont particularly remember the Don Baylor Firing, mainly because I was over seas when it happened, and didnt get the news till like a week later. All i was able to see each day were the box scores. Anyways, At what time would we expect an announcment, if baker IS fired?

What I mean is, Obviously we would need a manager for the game today. So, Would it be safe to assume, if we dont have an announcment by, say, five central time its not happening today? I know its kind of silly to just assume he's being fired today, or tomorrow. But I just have a feeling.

My guess would be, if they are going to fire Dusty, that it will be after the all-star break. MLB frowns on things like that that may detract from the All-Star festivities. JMO.

I think the Baylor firing happened during the day on a Friday, Lacheman became the manager for the day, and Kimm joined the team the next day.

I don't think Baker is going to get fired soon. But if he was, I'd expect it during the All Star break, specifically the Wednesday following the game (Bud doesn't like headlines taking away from the game). If it's going to happen today, I think it would happen sooner rather than later. They'd have to have a press conference, introduce the interim guy, and try to calm things down long before the players start warming up.

Maybe the Cubs jerked around CP, but most of his blame falls on his own stubborn shoulders. He always wanted to do things his own way - saying he wanted to leadoff should have passed his lips 3 years ago, or earlier - and I hope he succeeds, somewhere else.

The Dusty Busters are hilarious. You guys are like rabid Marxists - absolutely everything must first pass thru the "How does this affect Dusty being fired" gauntlet. It's a constant filter on every Cubs thought for y'all isn't it? Example: "Hendry had Cheerios today? Does that mean the fibrous goodness will lead Hendry to proper digestion and thus to better thinking and then to Dusty's firing?" Example #2: "Bombings in London? Does this mean Hendry will realize how precious time is and that life is a gift and fire Dusty immediately?"

What's unfortunate is that the Dusty Busters rarely achieve the even low level of humor posted above.

If we want to believe it or not, our season is over. Bruce Levine was just on ESPN and he pretty much said we are not looking for temporary fixes through trades. If we are going to make trades it is going to be for young guys who have long-term potential like MacDougal. I think we should try really hard to get Huff. He would seriously fit right in. He also mentioned that all GMs who talk to Hendry, the first thing they ask for is Matt Murton over our other prospects. That should say a lot right there. A nice story would've been to have Murton in LF, Dubois in RF, and Corey in CF, but unfortunately, 2/3 have not been living up to expectations.

C Patt should rent Major League 2, he'll have more time to watch on the team bus. He reminds me of Willie Mays Hayes from the Major League films. Remember in Major League 2 that he got a sluggers mentality and started trying to hit home runs all the time, but failed misserably. In the first game of the season when Willie Mays Hayes points to the bleachers, calls a shot, and then flies out to the left field warning track. The next time up, he points again, calls a shot again, flies out again. Then, Bob Uecker mutters, "maybe he was just pointing to the left fielder."

I was rolling into Atlanta on the night Bay-Lo was canned. Seems that it happened around 3 p.m. local time.

Interesting. I know its pretty much unfoudned, But i have a real strange feeling bakers days here are officially over.

Murton only bats right-handed, so he will only face lefty pitchers. That is a wasted callup. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Cubs will not develop a righty-hitting position prospect under Dusty Baker. Trade him now.

Dusty Busters have been saying that since last fall.... I'm sure it's right around the corner.

can we edit that from "Trade him now" (Murton) to 'Fire him now" (Baker)?

Oh grow up.

First of all, If dusty busters is a term used to describe people who are sick of the worst lineups immaginable and horrid in game moves, then sure, I'm a dusty buster.

Secondly, how can you disagree that him being canned is right aroudn the corner, Even if it doesnt come today or tomorrow like i feel, Its gonna come soon.

While on the subject of Baker's demise, I posed this question that was buried in another thread, maybe it will get more response here.

Why don't you see the elite college baseball coaches ever mentioned as possible candidates for MLB managers? You see it on occasion in Football and Basketball I was just wondering why no in baseball, or do some of them filter up through the minor league ranks? Just curious as to what others think.

I know you're a Dusty Buster. A typical feeling of Dusty Buster would be a crazy notion that his being fired is just around the corner. He is not. I'll bet you cold hard cash if you want: If you bet me $20 that he'll get fired in the next week I'll give you 20 to 1 odds that he doesn't - if he does that's $400 for you. But if you don't pay me when you lose, Tim gets to ban you.

He won't draw the heat for losing - that's going to CP, Doobs, the injuries and thus far underperforming pitching.
