That catch tonight was amazing. Just incredible.

The show afterwards was even better. His range as an actor is almost as great as his range in the field.

the cubs would be so awesome if he was our centerfielder

yeah, then we'd only need two more hitters and two more relievers to be a real team

i didnt see it

details plz

Fly ball to the deepest part of the park and Edmonds had to go back, dive, go almost completely horizontal, and backhand it in the air. Knocked the wind out of him pretty bad. He was on the ground for a good 30 seconds. It was an incredible catch. IMB doesn't know the half of his performance. It was hilarious. For the rest of the inning kept rubbing his stomach and bending over. Every once in a while he'd squat down and put his head down. Quite dramatic.

The part that was the funniest was that immediately after getting the ball back in (this part of the play was almost as amazing as the catch itself), he just starts rolling in agonizing pain. Larry Walker comes over and surveys the scene, sees Jimmy crumbled in agony, and waves the trainers over. Jimmy must have told him he was ok, because Walker immediately goes from frantically waving the trainers over to dismissively waving them away, and walking back to right field.

Yeah, Barry Weinberg had a rough night. First Larry waved him off then Tony went out there with him to make sure he didn't get waved off. Later, when Molina got beaned in the hand he went out to check him out and Yadi did a sweet spin move to pull the injured hand away so Barry couldn't see it. Tony went out there and had to pull him off the field. The guy REALLY didn't want to come out. After he went into the dugout, he tried to come back out, but the ump had to tell him that once you get pulled and enter the dugout you can't come back in.

Yadier Molina is awesome.

You'd think after ten years of getting "banged" up after making diving catches, he'd learn to play three steps deeper. I do love how he dives after the ball is in his glove.[/i]

I know - he stole that move from all the Little Leaguers of the world who want to be the star of the team. BTW, I perfected the "Edmondsing" of ground balls when I was 12, to the point that on a routine ground ball to short, I could "trip" and fall forward toward the ball to create a dive. Add in the throw from the knees that would just beat the runner, and Jimmy had nothing on me.

And jealousy rears it's ugly head.

Jealousy nothing. It's called calling it like it is. I had no problem calling out Sosa when he would dive for no reason on many balls. Or do you really believe all his dives are necessary even when his arm is bent and not outstreched? Look, I gave him props on the over the wall catches and some of the few necessary diving catches, but more often than not he's just being an entertainer. He's just giving some gullible fans what they want. But his dives are really only needed sometimes because he has only average speed for a CF and plays shallow.

I was playing Ken Griffey Jr. Slugfest from back in the day yesterday, and I kept diving after everything, missing the ball, and then diving again. My friend told me I didn't have to dive after everything, but I told her I was channeling Jim.

And I love him for it. His antics always entertain me. From hopping out of the batters box on a borderline inside pitch to his diving.

Yeah, watching Jimmy dive for that and the subsequent antics was much more entertaining than watching Andruw or Torii coast underneath the same ball would have been. :P

Do I envy his defense? Not a chance, as it is overrated.

His offense, on the other hand....

I think he does it to irk Cubs fans. Honestly, who cares how he does it as long as the play is made?

Like Big Z's TRIPLE . I think that may be the highlight of the year so far, I heard it on the radio and I was lMAO and than went online the next day and saw the clip of him chugging around the bases. :P

I saw the play, and I must say I love the fact that Edmonds ran straight back and then circled to where the ball was... great route...

Whatever. I'm not denying that Jim hollywood's a lot of plays, but he didn't on this play. I was there. He went as straight back as he could. He did what you're supposed to do. Run back, pick up the ball, run to it. He wouldn't have made it if he was looking over his shoulder the whole time.
