called up their 10th minor leaguer this year. Hudson, Hampton and Chipper are injured and they still are running away from the Cubs.

All I've heard about is how the vaunted Cubs farm system was ranked #1 by Baseball America in 200whatever. My question is: Where in God's name are all these great players? Could the Cubs call up 10 minor leaguers in one year and still win the wildcard? Discuss.

The Braves (top to btm) have been the most effectively run system in MLB for about the last 15 years, compare any squad to them and they will look futile in comparison.

Dusty's afraid to use Cedeno over Neifi. My guess is that he'd get Enrique Wilson ten times before having to play a guy like Fontenot in a crucial spot.

With the exception of Rich Hill (4th round), all the top draft picks (including compensation picks) from the 2002 draft class are injured or seriously underperforming. Of the 2001 class, Sisco is at KC, Willis is at FLA.

We have some players who would be worth a look, but I doubt they will help us win the WC at this point. Even then, Dusty wouldn't play them. I have read a few places the Hendry wants to call up Murton and Pie within the next month, but I fail to see what good that will do unless Dusty is gone or his veteran toys are taken away from him.

The Braves are winning because Bobby Cox is intelligent enough to realize that his rookies are a better option than his washed up vets on an everyday basis, and Dusty is not. Any effective youth movement here is impossible until there is a philisophical change.

In the majors, you've got Zambrano, Prior, Garland, Willis, Hinske, etc.

Another thing people fail to realize is that not every "great" prospect is guaranteed to even see the bigs. I am not an expert, but I believe that if you have, say, 30 "great" prospects and even 7-8 of them have any real success, you're doing pretty damn good. THe problem comes when people expect every name they hear with the label of a great prospect to amount to something. That just isn't the reality of it. And the Cubs prospects have panned out well on the whole, unfortunately many of them have done so for other teams.

Ironic isn't it that Francoeur is the one who hit the big dinger in the 8th too?? everything is quickly going down the pooper for the cubs that's for sure
