Derrek Lee Injured

ESPN News is reporting Lee left with an injured shoulder. How did it happen and is there any prognosis?

 

I looked in the Game Thread and all around and I didn't see much about it. Maybe I missed it. If there is a thread or other discussion about it, please lock and accept my apologies.

Dusty put Macias in for DLee. DLee got pissed and began throwing things at Dusty. During the fracas, DLee threw his left shoulder out while trying to lift dusty over his head. Apparently, Dusty is so full of crap, he tips the scales at well over 700 pounds.

 

 

Also, Lee had some shoulder irritation (according to Dr. Len Kasper) and was taken down early in the game :(

My friend in Hotlanta said that they were saying on Turner South that it was a minor shoulder dislocation.

 

Take it for what it's worth, I don't think he'd lie about that. But I have nothing else to back it up.

Cubs.com is saying it's some inflammation that he's had for some time now. He was invited to participate in the Home Run Derby, but declined because of it. I hope it's nothing more serious.

I don't want to start a new thread on this, but who does everybody think is going to be playing 1b for the next few games (assuming Lee is out till say...the all-star break or something).

 

I guess the way I see it, our current choices on the roster are Hollandsworth, Walker and Dubois. I know someone (JC?) mentioned calling up Die Hard to get some time there, but I just don't think that's likely. I thought Grieve might have had some time at 1B, but in checking 2002-2005, it doesn't look like it. I still think the first thing to do is call him up and get rid of a pitcher (assuming DLee doesn't actually go on the DL).

 

1. Who would you put at 1B and how would you construct the lineup?

 

2. What do you think Dusty will actually do?

 

Last night, Dusty put Walker at 1B, and Hairston at 2B. I wouldn't be totally opposed to putting Hollandsworth at 1B and Dubois in LF, but then we're stuck with Neifi leading off again. Also, Dusty pretty much said he won't put Hairston in LF, so we can probably cross that out. But if it were me, I think I might put Corey back on the bench for a few days and do this:

 

Hairston CF

Walker 2B

Ramirez 3B

Burnitz RF

Dubois LF

Hollandsworth 1B

Barrett C

Cedeno SS (I know, won't happen)

Pitcher

 

I throw that lineup out there and stick with it for the next few games to see what happens.

An injury to Perez would actually help the Cubs. Cedeno would get to play and we wouldn't have Neifi's putrid bat at the top of the order. Of course I'm not saying I want Neifi injured.

So DLee has a bum shoulder... I always thought that carrying a team on your shoulders was just an expression. Apparently I was wrong.

Im going to suspect Lee hurt his shoulder on the play Wood threw to first 2 days ago. Lee stretched for the throw and all his weight landed on the glove sided shoulder.

Levine just reported on ESPN 1000 that it's not a serious injury, just inflammation in the shoulder. He is day to day.
