I don’t know why the Bears would have been in the market for a guard unless they thought Jonah Jackson’s injury was more serious

In addition to any possible injury concerns with Jackson they also probably need to replace Thuney in the next year or so. He is 33-34 this season, birthday in November, and will be playing in the last year of his contract next season at 34-35. His cap hit for next year is 28.5 M with a dead cap of 12 M. So, it seems reasonable to at least kick the tires.

The Bears are only $7 million under the cap. Wouldn’t be a good use of resources to get Nelson when he is a FA next year anyway and guard is their strongest positional group.

Short term, I absolutely agree, Corner and Edge are more important right now if upgrades are possible. Mack etc.

Meh, the cap isn't really an issue.  They can figure that part out.

For one player, yes. But they need a d lineman and a d back.

Again, I think there's a pretty good chance they go offense here.  Kmet's injury for one.

But...I'm worried that Monangai may be out longer than we think.  Turf toe can be a bitch.  The Bears just signed Zavier Scott to the active roster.  Swift has been banged up.  It'd be a wild swing, but I wonder if they'd maybe look at RB.

Might as well get Nashon Wright back also since he’s getting almost no snaps with the Jets. He’s played in two games and has one tackle.

Hmmmmm

With Johnson, I am sure offense is talked about more. But I think an extra TE, offensive lineman or RB all come, in order of importance, after and edge rusher, interior lineman & cornerback. If they add a TE I think it will be someone who is free to add. I doubt they add a RB too. A lineman does make some sense for depth. But, again, none as important as an edge, interior lineman or CB.

Remember when we all thought they were gonna go for edge in the draft and then they didn't?

Yeah and it seems the best defense is an offense that controls TOP. Im thinking they go more this route than a washed up Mack. Maybe they do a little of both.

If they are trading a 5th round pick for an offensive player wouldn’t he most likely be washed up or only about an average player too? Mack for a 5 isn’t a bad deal. I think the only offensive position they might give up more than a 5 for would be a lineman. They aren’t doing that for a TE or a RB. I do see the value in a lineman, however.
