They aren’t huge steps up but they have a baseline. This looks like the opposite of how the Bears handled Mitch when Nagy came on board and realized Trubisky was a moron that wouldn’t be able to run a quality NFL offense. They stuck with him anyway instead of cutting bait. 
They sort of fixed Darnold and moved on for McCarthy but immediately regretted it. If they can keep this team competitive with two castoff QBs (so far so good) he may get the rare second chance to find a franchise QB. 

 

I would think if the keep winning games, they may not be position to draft a potential franchise QB.

I didn’t mean this season, just that instead of losing his job with JJ he can win some games with vets again and stick around until he gets to draft another guy.

Everyone knew JJ was substandard except the Vikings’ FO. Letting Darnold go for him ranks up there on the list of biggest boneheaded FO moves ever.

The difference between the Vikings and Bears is recognizing the mistake quickly, firing the people who effed it up, and moving on. Bears would have forced JJ in as starter for at least another year, then fired O’Connell for not making it work, then hired a clown to replace him.
