Well I'm not sure if Soriano would leadoff (I think he did with the Yankees), but the Rangers need pitching and it seems they would be more likely to trade Soriano then an OF. I don't see why Jim isn't talking to the Rangers more because of their pitcing needs.

Uh, he doesn't want to play OF (He rejected playing it in Texas) and likely doesn't want to leadoff. We already have two 2B why would we need a third one with a crappy attitude

True but Hairston can also play OF and Todd Walker would be great of the bench or he could start in games where he has had great success vs. the starter. I know this is the wrong thread bu if we had Soriano, MY lineup would be:

Hairston (CF)

Soriano (2B)

Ramirez (3B)

Lee (1B)

Burnitz (RF)

Barrett ©

Hollandsworth (LF)

Neifi (SS)

pitcher's spot

When Nomar returns, he is 3rd with Ramirez behind Lee

Walker is fine at 2B.

Maybe I'm crazy but I'd rather get another SS or just play Cedeno and begin to move Nomar to the OF.

I don't see why we would want to send one of the best hitters in Walker to the bench. I'm all for improving the offense, but if we trade for Soriano, we still have a hole in left, center, and short. Soriano does nothing to solve that. If he were willing to play left or short, or if he could play CF then it would be a decent move.

Putting Walker on the bench is ridiculous.

Why you would make a trade to bench a hitter who is hitting .312, with a 365 OBP and 472 slugging is beyond me. Walker is second in average and OBP on the whole team.

This would be a horrible idea.

At this juncture, and if I was Hendry, I wouldn't even remotely consider trading for any player at any position that doesn't provide at minimal .350+ lifetime OBP.

The only way Dusty can't screw up the line up is to get rid of the guys who can't get on base.

Why do we want that near the top of the order? I'm not a big fan of Soriano. He's easily one of the most overrated players in the game.

Hmmm, Soriano is a strange player. I didn't realize his away numbers have been that horrible the past two years. In 2003 he was .306/.350/.567/.917 on the road and in 2002 he was .319/.352/.582/.933. 2001 he wasn't that bad either on the road. His career numbers aren't horrible on the road either.

Nonetheless, i would love to have him if we didn't have two solid 2nd basemen already. I love Todd Walker and want him here for a long time as the everyday 2nd baseman. If Soriano would be willing to play leftfield or centerfield it might be a good option (depending what we'd have to trade). It won't happen though. And by the way he'd be a better option than patterson and neifi at the top of the order but that's not saying much. His career .321 OBP and .503 SLG is better suited to hit towards the middle of the lineup.

OK so maybe Soriano isn't the best option. But I'd have to think Texas could give us some offense in a position we need. Texas scores a lot of runs per game and they NEED pitching. Maybe they could give us an outfielder. Mench possibly?

Actually that's not true at all. He didn't want to bat fifth in the line up and said that he would rather be a lead off hitter than a five hole hitter.

I doubt they'd deal Mench, but I'd love to have David Dellucci. He has a .420 OBP this year and had eye surgery in the offseason, which has really helped him recognize pitches. And unlike most of the other Rangers players, he is actually hitting better on the road.

Move walker to LF.....And play JH at second......or ther other way...JH is the closest thing to a leadoff hitter we have....He has to start playing

You resurrected a year and a half old post for that?
