I dont know, I guess we have a different view of what a best offensive season of his career looks like.

Yes his current OB and Slg is higher then his career numbers as of now, but his overall hitting is much worse and his strike outs are alot higher now.

225/368/457/825  58 Ks  now

246/344/447/791.   168 Ks career high

Part of why I brought up his current cold streak, was to show those numbers are dipping fast on him, and hes already more than a third of the way to his highest K total.

His best full offensive season overall was probably 2022 IMO.

271/342/440/781

You should have just said you only judge players based on batting average to start the conversation and we could have cut out all this debate and just collectively laughed at you for being stuck in 1998.

If you dont subscribe to war then you're probably going to like PCA even less than Happ. He won't hit at a "superstar" level and he'll K a ton but he's pretty much a lock to be a top 10-20 player because of the overall package.

When did i say I judge only by batting average? But you know what funny since you brought it up, if player A goes 20 for 100 he not hitting very well is he ?

I personally like OPS, and I get batting average isnt looked at like it was in the past because off all these different metrics they use now, but hitters still need to get hits to succeed and get all those other stats.

A hitter who goes 20 for 100 may very well be hitting very good and may be the benefactor of bad luck. Much like a hitter who has 40 hits in 100 chances may not be hitting well and instead is the benefactor of good luck. These numbers don't inform the next 100 PAs on their own.

100 PAs is around 20% or less of a full season. And these numbers are simply not predictive at all. It is why we have plenty of data points, batted ball data and expected data to determine whether or not a hitter is doing well or not.

As Jason pointed out, that's not enough information.  If they were all singles and he didn't walk at all, sure, maybe I agree with you.  If he hit 10 HRs, 5 doubles and 5 singles along with 20 walks, suddenly you have a guy who has a .333 OBP and is slugging .550 for an .883 OPS, which is a stat you just said you like.

So if you like OPS how can you say Happ is having a bad year. His OPS is 825. That is very good.
