I'm surprised when I see comments like this.  The majority of us live in or near the city of Chicago, are we not supposed to take an interest when the 2 Chicago teams play each other?  They are absolutely our rivals lol.  And I'd bet most Cubs + Sox fans would agree to that.  It would piss me off if the White Sox won a WS more than if the Cincinnatti Reds did.

Yes they are rivals but to get upset about the Sox who have been irrelevant for 5 years now is laughable.  That or you are 13

maybe 2 or 3 seasons out of my entire life watching baseball where both teams were playoff contenders at the same time.

2008 is the answer.

The Sox have rarely even qualified for the playoffs post 1969 when the LCS was introduced

If you think millions of people wouldn't be pissed off if the Sox win a chip before the Cubs, given where both franchises currently are, then you are absolutely delusional my friend.

As much as I enjoy being able to take my kids to Sox Park (great food, great beer) for like $13 total and get a whole section/half a concourse to let them run around, Chicago as a city is a much, much more fun town when both baseball teams are good. They're never going to surpass us in popularity, I have a lot of Sox fan friends, we already broke the drought, all in all give me a good Sox team over whatever this garbage has been the last 5 years.

I disagree.  Yes they do not directly impact our ability to make the playoffs, but millions of Sox fans hate the Cubs and vice versa.  So it is a rivalry.  If for no other reason than millions interpret it as such.  If the Sox won a WS it would draw a much greater negative reaction from the fanbase than if the Reds or Pirates did.

Also I got a bunch of Sox fans in my family.  I have no Brewers or Cardinals fans in my family haha.

Right. But would you rather the Cubs sweep the Brewers or the white sox, if they went 3-3 in those 6 games. I know the brewers are the correct answer, but it would suck to lose 3 to the Sox.

I brought it up elsewhere, but it's actually kinda hard to hate this White Sox team.  Their fans are another story, but the team's coterie of dirtbags and horsefeatherss are pretty much out of the picture, be it Hawk or Ozzie or AJ Pierzynski, and the team is mediocre enough that any crowing from their fans this season rings hollow.

I also want Munetaka Murakami to smack 60+ HRs this season because baseball is more fun that way.

Don’t forget Cooper and Kenny Williams. I actually agree with you. But I don’t live in Chicago any longer so I don’t have to listen to Sox fans, except my son in law (but he knows better). Sox organization definitely used to operate as the team with a chip on their shoulder. I actually remember going out and you would see Sox fans watching the Cubs game hoping the Cubs would lose instead of watching their team hoping they would win. I asked one of them if they would rather get swept by the Cubs but then sweep the Twins (who were 2 games up in them in the standings) or sweep the Cubs but get swept by the Twins. He wanted to sweep the Cubs. To me, he was the “typical” Sox fan.
