I could see that happening. Huff's not exactly "heating up" right now, but he has a modest 3 game hitting streak, so maybe he is turning it around a bit.

Here's the whole Sun-Times version of the rumor. Thankfully, it sounds like the Cubs are willing to part with Rich Hill.

Another rumor making the rounds is that the Cubs might be willing to trade outfielder Jason Dubois and pitcher Rich Hill for Tampa Bay Devil Rays outfielder Aubrey Huff.

The Cubs don't like Huff's defense and wouldn't want to downgrade in that area. Plus, Hill has a bright future in the organization. They aren't about to let another home-grown left-hander go unless the return is much greater than Huff. After all, they haven't forgotten about trading another developing left-hander named Dontrelle Willis.

Also good news on the Preston Wilson front:

The Cubs continue to talk with the Colorado Rockies about outfielder Preston Wilson, but no offers have been made and indications are that nothing is close to being agreed upon.

As for speculation that Cubs rookie shortstop Ronny Cedeno would be part of any Wilson deal, that isn't going to happen. Pitchers Todd Wellemeyer and Sergio Mitre figure to be available for the right price, but Hendry isn't going to trade either for a player such as Wilson, who could leave after this season as a free agent. If Wilson has a short-term future in Chicago, O'Dowd can expect short-term material in exchange.

Although one broadcast report suggested that Tampa Bay outfielder Aubrey Huff could be had for outfielder Jason Dubois and pitcher Rich Hill, it doesn't appear the Cubs are interested.

What does everyone interpret this part as meaning? The Cubs are talking to other teams about a bigger player (Dunn)? Or they're asking for more in return from TB (reliever)?

id like to see it expand into a deal including baez, maybe add wellemeyer or leicester?

I am not to sure about Baez, he kinda reminds me of an Antonio Alfonseca type. Little too high of a WHIP for an elite closer/setup man. He walks way too many guys, not sure how he can stand up to the pressure of playing in a pennant/wildcard race.

Beaz could replace remmy me thinks.

forget the leffty crud.

Rich Hill, Dubois, Remmy (we eat the salary) for Baez, Huff, A ball prospect

Maybe I'm the only one left who really likes Jason Dubois, but this is a hard descision for me.

I love both of them. I'll come back and decide whether or not I like this deal.

I'd do almost anything else to get Huff in a Cubs uniform though. See sig.

At one time I would have been thrilled to get Huff but not now. His power has deserted him and I don't want a slow singles hitter in left field.

If Baez replaced Remmy in the pen then its an upgrade.

Remmy has got to go.

Huff either is off the juice or is so unhappy playing in Tampa that he is slacking off, not sure which.

I've wondered about the steroid thing too. I asked a few weeks ago if anyone had noticed any size reduction in Huff but no one answered. I'm still curious.

He's a slow starter isn't he? he's hitting .290 in June which is good. Although you are right his power seems to have disapeared...steroids? Whats his problem, do they have any ideas?

Either situation doesn't say much about his makup as a player. Maybe another course of action is needed.

Huff could be Aramis-like at this point. Has shown great promise but is underachieving on a poor team. If JH could swing a deal that is Aramis/Lofton-like for him, I wouldn't be opposed.

How about Mitre and Kelton for Huff? (I agree with Tim that Baez is undesireable).

I love the Creature, but I could live with a Dubois + Hill for Huff. Huff isn't my favorite midseason target, but he's better than what we have.

This deal actually makes sense. The Devil Rays get another young hitter and a pitcher with a lot of promise that has logged some major league innings.

This rumor may have some legs. :-k

The Cubs aren't interested in a Hill + Dubois for Huff swap?!

Crap, I'd do that in a heartbeat. Hill is nice, but definitely expendable (didn't we draft about 90 LHP with heat?). Tampa Bay is known to have ridiculous asking prices, but I think this is a very fair trade, and the Cubs should jump on it.

It'd be fair, but Hill sure looks pretty good. And we've lost lefties Sisco, Willis and Jones recently. Nolasco didn't do to well at AAA. Maybe we can wait them out and give them a lesser lefty prospect like Piggy instead.

Just being nitpicky, but don't you mean Pinto? Nolasco's not a lefty.

Oops - thanks for the correction. The Cubs have been reported to have been so keen on getting a lefty in the rotation but we keep trading them. I'd rather not give up Pinto either, but it is tempting.

A LH with Hill's curveball who leads all of Minor League baseball in K's isn't exactly a replaceable part, even if he hasn't or maybe won't reach his potential. While Huff is hitting .280 for the month, his power is still not there, which means I'd be tentative in dealing him. Dubois and a prospect? Probably, but the prospect needs to be a Connolly or a Pignatiello, since you're essentially banking on Huff to regain his power that has been missing now for 300 PA's.
