question: if a pitcher leaves a tie ballgame with runners on base and they score, the pitcher who was responsible let the runners on base would get the loss or no? A friend and I were talking about it last night, he said it could be either pitcher. Wasn't real clear from the rules.

yes the pitcher that left the runners on would get charged the loss.

Thanks..

Actually, it's true that runners that reach base against a pitcher are charged against him, even if it's a reliever that allows them to score.

However, I believe the Official Scorer has the authority to charge the reliever with the loss. I could be wrong, but I thought that was right. I know that discussion has come up when awarding wins to closers that blow saves.

Santo can't even speak because neither Walker or Patterson took a pitch. "In the old days.........."

Disappointing by Walker. Predictable from Patterson, along with the result.

Everytime Patterson doesn't strike out I keep thinking of the movie major league when he says:

"Well, at least he didn't spike himself"...is that a bad sign?

tough loss...pitching was terrible today. I'm starting to hate these Brewers a lot more.

Ditto here, and what's the scary part is that they are a young team. They'll be a force to be reckon with in the near future.

I didnt see the game but by looking at the score I can tell you that we should not have given Maddux an option for a 3rd year. He's been brutal IMO. I also do not think Mitre belongs in the pen. He should be a starter, and if we can get something for him in a trade, I'm all for it.

So umm...I got offered free tickets to the game durin the first inning, I umm got there just as the Cubs tied it up 5-5. And umm the Brewers outscored us 5-1 when I got there. I can't believe my luck
