Do you think they will move?

It doesn't make sense as to why the Rockies would want Ronny Cedeno in the first. 1: They had the "front-runner" NL ROY SS Clint Barmes. 2. One of their top prospects in the organization is Chris Nelson. Third they JUST drafted a SS in the first rd....Troy Tulowitzki.

Them asking for Ronny Cedeno is beyond redundant, and I believe Hendry has to know that, and thus WON'T put Cedeno in the deal.

Add in the fact that they already have a top prospect at 3B in Ian Stewart...I really can't figure this deal out. They can't exactly shift one of their players over and moving some one like Nelson or Stewart out into the OF would just be more trouble that it's worth, imo. Plus Barmes should be coming back sooner or later. They're all better than Cedeno...so why in the blue blazes would the Rockies want him?!

These rumored deals just aren't making any sense. The only way it would make sense is if the Rockies are shipping one or more of those prospects off in some sort of deal either involving one team dumping a high salary guy on them with cash or if the Rockies are shipping Todd Helton off somewhere and tossing in a really good prospect or two to make the deal palatable.

Can anyone else make any sense of what the heck is going on here from the Rockies' standpoint?

Well one thing is all of you are assuming the Rockies are competent to run a baseball team and are thinking logically about Barmes, Stewart, etc., history indicates that may not be the case.

My question is, can someone tell me how Preston Wilson is an improvement over Corey Patterson?

All of these rumors seem to be starting in Denver. To me that indicates that the Rockies are trying to generate some buzz to put pressure on the Cubs or other teams interested in Wilson. The package suggested in the Trib today is utterly absurd for a player of Wilson's production (Cedeno, Welley, another prospect and $4Mil?). To me, this reeks of Rockie desperation. Unless he has suddenly lost his sanity, I trust Hendry not to make a deal this obviously bad for the Cubs.

I doubt it's imminent. Why would Colorado be in search of another shortstop even if Barmes doesn't play another game this year. I would think they'd target another position.

Perhaps his injury was worst than reported.

You can't do much worse than breaking your clavicle in that particular area, unless you break your clavicle and then the broken ends impale your heart or something...

My brother-in-law broke his clavicle, and man, he was down for a long time. He is not the same as before.

It is really tough to throw after that.

but they have other SS prospects, iirc.

This is the case. The Rockies will deal Wilson. If you sit and wait until the end of July you can probably get him for nothing - which is what he is worth in a trade. I also get the feeling the Rockies did not view Barmes's injury very highly from a personal standpoint and wouldn't mind sending him a message that he is expendable.

That's exactly what the Cubs need. Another low average, high K guy.

Wait, that sounds like Adam Dunn!....half kidding.

Hendry can't seriously be considering this. Wilson represents everything we do not want. Unless you're trying to use this as a smokescreen, any contact about Wilson is just a waste of time and resources.

If you read the articles, he isn't seriously considering it, not for the price they are asking now.

Except "high OBP" only describes one of those 2 players.

Even half-ass decent SS prospects are hard to come by - we'd be NUTS to trade Cedeno. He's got the glove, if he can hit .270/.330/.400 that's pretty good for a starting SS, especially for one as cheap as he'll be. Just thought I'd restate the obvious in case Jim Hendry is reading this thread.

Dusty is going to get Cedeno some PT this year - the guy could be our starting SS next year.

I sent an e-mail to Carrie Muskat, and my question was "If you were Jim Hendry, and you have the option on who the Cubs should try to get for their LF position, who would you choose?"

She replied "Who would I chose? Not wilson."

So she didn't really give me the obvious answer, other than that she wouldn't want Wilson if she was JH.

It probably don't mean much, but at least she agrees with the majority of us that Wilson is deftinaly not the answer.

Yes, I could. However, I would be lying out my arse. :^o

Which brings me back to the title of this thread. I find it quite humurous.

"Colorado wants Cedeno and 4m for Preston Wilson". I'm sure they do. I'm sure they'd like to lower Helton's contract by about 10m per year. I'm sure they want the sun to shine tomorrow. I'd bet they'd like to see the hill they play on at home everyday lowered by about 5,000 ft. I'd bet they would like to have every team in MLB treat them like an expansion team all over again and require that they receive a top prospect from every team.

They can want all they want, but it doesn't mean they are gonna get what they want.

While they are wishing for Cedeno and 4m for Preston Wilson, I'll go ahead and wish that George Steinbrenner will trade A-Rod to the Cubs, while paying 100% of his salary, for Ronny Cedeno.

What Colorado should "really" want, is for some team, any team to "really" want Preston Wilson or any part of the ugly contract he currently receives.

My thinking exactly. Just doesn't make sense. Maybe a couple of minor leaguers (no high ones), and someone like Holly with Rockies paying part Wilson's of his salary. Other wise I'd go else where.
