I'm starting to get sick hearing all these reports.

Just awful news for Cubs fans if this holds weight. Terrible.

Same here. The more of these reports I see, the more worried I get.

I'm just hoping that they're trying to use this to hurry another team into a deal. If teams see that the Yankees and Cubs could be close to making deals, hopefully they'll get antsy.

I doubt it's imminent. Why would Colorado be in search of another shortstop even if Barmes doesn't play another game this year. I would think they'd target another position.

Perhaps his injury was worst than reported.

Plus, why would they want Welly? He's exactly the type of pitcher they don't need. Mitre would make more sense for them.

You can't do much worse than breaking your clavicle in that particular area, unless you break your clavicle and then the broken ends impale your heart or something...

Actually, being a fastball/changeup pitcher, he's a good candidate for relative success in Colorado.

Do you think they will move?

It doesn't make sense as to why the Rockies would want Ronny Cedeno in the first. 1: They had the "front-runner" NL ROY SS Clint Barmes. 2. One of their top prospects in the organization is Chris Nelson. Third they JUST drafted a SS in the first rd....Troy Tulowitzki.

Them asking for Ronny Cedeno is beyond redundant, and I believe Hendry has to know that, and thus WON'T put Cedeno in the deal.

Add in the fact that they already have a top prospect at 3B in Ian Stewart...I really can't figure this deal out. They can't exactly shift one of their players over and moving some one like Nelson or Stewart out into the OF would just be more trouble that it's worth, imo. Plus Barmes should be coming back sooner or later. They're all better than Cedeno...so why in the blue blazes would the Rockies want him?!

These rumored deals just aren't making any sense. The only way it would make sense is if the Rockies are shipping one or more of those prospects off in some sort of deal either involving one team dumping a high salary guy on them with cash or if the Rockies are shipping Todd Helton off somewhere and tossing in a really good prospect or two to make the deal palatable.

Can anyone else make any sense of what the heck is going on here from the Rockies' standpoint?

I will take Wilson if it's a pure salary dump on Colorado's part and we part with nothing of significance. To me, that means Wellemeyer is the absolute most I'd give up. No way, no how do I move Cedeno for a stiff like Wilson. Ronny might be (emphasis on the word might) our SS for the next ten years. You can't trade away that kind of option value on someone like Preston Wilson.

Now, if moving Cedeno means you can snag an Adam Dunn or Ichiro, that is a different matter. Ronny is not untouchable. He's a classic case of sell high, I'd let him go in the right deal. But not for Wilson. No. NO!!!!!!

Yea, you could get SO much more for Cedeno, than Preston. If Hendry does this, he needs his head checked.

I think we can rest assure that Hendry has NO intentions of trading Cedeno. He has already turn the Rockies down once, and he will turn them down TWICE. I mean this is a Rockies team that asked for Church and somebody else, I believe. I suspect, IF the Cubs do acquire Wilson, it will end up being something like Welly and Fuld (or some low-level decent prospect) for Wilson.

Folks, chill.

The article only said that Colorado wants Cedeno in return. That is great news. It means that other GMs think Ronny is for real, too. The article said nothing to the effect that Hendry was even considering giving him up.

Wasn't there a thread just a couple of days ago that rumored Hendry nixed a deal for Wilson because Cedeno was the guy they wanted in return?

For my part, I don't want Wilson. He isn't what the Cubs need. He's more HRs and Ks. The Cubs need OBP. They've got plenty of power. Now they need to get people on base so that these guys can drive 'em in.

Yet another reason to cool yer jets...

chicagosports.com[/url]"]Talks with Colorado about center fielder Preston Wilson have continued this week, though the Cubs thus far are unwilling to meet the Rockies' demands.

The Denver Post reported the Rockies are trying to get a package of three prospects that includes pitcher Todd Wellemeyer and shortstop Ronny Cedeno, and also want the Cubs to pick up $4 million of the $6.3 million left on Wilson's contract. The Cubs aren't interested in dealing Cedeno, or in assuming such a large share of Wilson's salary.

Okay?

That's good news, especially the part about "aren't interested in dealing Cedeno". Feel better.
