Six days from the deadline, it's officially trade season. The Chicago Cubs' farm system isn't as deep as they'd like it to be, but they have good chips to move in exchange for the help the 2025 team needs. Who's most likely to be dealt?

I don' t think anyone is off the table but if I had to sort it using mlb pipeline top 10 as a basis, which doesn't have the latest draft, it would go something like this.

Only available for a piece with years of control:

Caissie

Ballesteros

Rojas

Wiggins

Available for a piece with control or a really good rental

Alcantara

Long

Available for a rental

Birdsell

Ramirez

Triantos

 Guys where I'm undecided

Gallagher- I could see both sides of the coin here. He's surging so sell high or the Cubs believe he's legit and think selling him now would be underselling him.

Most likely to me would be

1) Alcantara

2) Long

3) Caissie

I think one of Caissie or Alcántara is pretty much a lick to get moved.

Tryptamime, I remember your name from other board(s)-old Cubs Den? You always had great insights.

I pretty much agree with this with some slight differences. First, Wiggins would only be available for Gore. No other controlled starter. As for the others in that group, I would just add the guy would have to be a pitcher. Not a controlled bat. Same with the next tier. I don’t think the Cubs have to worry about a controlled bat. I also think that is what you meant, just clarifying if the Cubs do get a controlled asset, it would be a pitcher. I agree with your breakdown, however. Nicely done.

Any deal that involves two of those tier 1 assets that doesn’t bring back someone like Ryan would give me some real pause. I just think there the questions are too significant for Cabrera(health) and Alcantara(performance?) to warrant headlining with say Caissie and Wiggins or Rojas.

Also, as it relates to Rojas, I think he is flirting with a significant ascendancy in prospect rankings. Trading him could be a case of missing a big jump in value creation. I’d be more inclined to include Wiggins in a deal than him.

I don’t see a trade for either Marlin starter to have more than one top tier guy. And I wouldn’t make it with Wiggins. I can see Cassie going for one of those pitchers. If there is more needed I think it would be come from guys not listed by tryptamine.

Respect your opinion Rcal but don't agree with it. Those Marlins starters are overrated IMHO. One with a tricky elbow and the other underperforming...do not want either. I'd be really bummed if we traded our top prospect (Caissie) for either one.

Really I was responding to someone who suggested more than one if the top names had to go for Cabrera or Alcantara. Maybe I read his comment wrong but I thought he was saying he didn’t like the idea of Alcantara or Cabrera coming to us but the Cubs having to headline a deal with Cassie, and either Wiggins or Rojas. My point is, I don’t think they need to do that much. But I do think either will cost the Cubs either Cassie or Alcantara. Marlins probably want a kicker too. That might be where the Cubs hold the line. I think those guys will not be cheap.

Here is another thought- with Horton likely approaching some sort of “soft” innings limit, you have to question his utility for Aug/Sep + potential playoff run. Would you include him for Gore, with the thought that you could keep Wiggins and ride Gore a bit like an ace for this run? I love Horton but they’ll need to be thoughtful about how they think they’re going to get the ‘25 innings required to really press in. Caissie/Horton/Cristian- is that in ballpark for Gore?

I don't think you mortgage the future for a consideration like that (Horton innings limit).  I also don't think that offer gets it done.  As much control as Gore has left and with an interim GM being in charge, someone is going to have to absolutely overpay in a very obvious manner to pry him away.  I'd say it's less than a 5% chance he's moved.

There's 3 guys I'd hate to see moved and that Caissie, Wiggins, and Rojas.

I just hope Hoyer doesn't get stupid with his trades for the sake of either getting an extension or just to get to postseason to make his resume look good for his future endeavors.
