Does Guzman even play baseball anymore? I heard he broke his leg in 6 spots while walking to 7-eleven for a slurpee. :D

Every year we go in with high hopes for this guy and every year he spends an extended time on the DL. He's dead to me now.

I haven't had high hopes for him in quite a while. I've always held out some hope that he would amount to something eventually, but for the past year that something has more or less been a servicable reliever.

I admit I had hopes for him when he pitched in spring training this year. I was excited about the possibility of him joining the big team a little after the season started. I was duped once again. :(

Maybe once he comes back we should put him in the pen as long relief or even as a closer perhaps. He seems to have major durability concerns so I think thats probably the best way to protect him now.

thats just what we need to replace injury-prone kerry wood....injury-prone angel guzman!!

so instead of wood giving us 130 IP, we can have angel give us 120 IP. kerry wood this year has looked like one of the worst pitchers in the NL, certainly among opening day starters.

Where did this come from?

And, where did Kerry start opening day? He wasn't on the mound in Arizona.

From a long day of drinking. perhaps?

For what it's worth, to me at least Wood hasn't been the same pitcher ever since his injury last year while playing against the Dodgers.

That game was the first time I got to wear my authentic Kerry Wood gray road jersey. I would burn it if it didnt cost so much and/or I believed in superstitions.

There's an article on InsidetheIvy.com with Oneri Fleita that says Guzman is fine and will resume his throwing program next week. It also says that Guzman is in the best shape of his life. Let's hope he finally can get it together.

On June 13, Carrie Muskat[/url]"] Minor League right-hander Angel Guzman is not ready to throw in a game yet. He's still sidelined with a sore right forearm.

Don't know if her information is completely up to date. :?

He's not ready for a game yet for sure. The article from InsidetheIvy.com said he was just starting his throwing program again. It should be a while before he's game ready.

And I've definitely read an interview with Oneri that said the same thing at the beginning of the year.

It sure would be nice to get an update on Guzman.

Initial diagnosis (see above) was that he had a fore arm strain. BA just did an update on the Top 100 prospects (mid year review) and John Manuel claims that he's down due to a shoulder issue? Hmmmmm

It's over a month since Fleita said that Guzman was doing great and was ready to start his throwing program within a week. If he's been throwing for a month by now, he could be ready to pop up in one of the Arizona League games one of these days. Of course, perhaps Fleita just has a "Guzman should be ready to begin throwing next week" message on his answering machine and in all his e-mails....

Hopefully Manuel is behind when he says shoulder, since shoulder was the last thing from last year and he hasn't pitched since. But perhaps he's right, and either Guzman has yet another problem manifesting, or perhaps Manuel can get info from Fleita that Carry Muskat or Inside the Ivy can't.

According to Oneiri Fleita and Ron Potesta (as mentioned in today's minor league thread), Angel Guzman is throwing very well out in Mesa and the goal is for him to get to the AFL. Angel will probably get some pitching time somewhere in the system late this summer.
