Ha, I almost started this thread.

Madrigal is so unsurprising it barely registers as news.

The Blue Jays just non-tendered Jordan Romano. He had an awful and injury-plagued season but he was lights out the couple years before that. Would be a good buy-low get, unless he goes back to his hometown Jays on a cheaper deal.

Josh Rojas is left handed and a plus defender at 2B and 3B.  League average hitter vs. RHP.  I'd be pretty down to hand him a bench role

Wow, shocked by Tauchman.  He had no fit on the team but I assumed he had comfortably done enough the last two years to have a little trade value.

They must be serious about getting those young kids some chances in the outfield this

Not sure canario is worthy

I was sure Tauchman at least had a little trade value. That's surprising but I guess Canario is cleared for a bench spot.

Does this translate to belli possibly staying? Nobody else currently backs up cf?

The Rockies non-tendered Brendan Rodgers, which is surprising. I'd take him as a utility infielder for sure.

The last 3 years he has a 58 wRC+ away from Coors, he's cooked.

Sign me up for Rojas, that one seems a glove-like fit.

Well that's why I have to look at the full stats...

I'd be down for Rojas as well.

His injuries were elbow-related so not exactly good, but would otherwise love to acquire him if he's a solid bounce-back candidate.

He was due about 7m in arbitration so obviously the Jays don't think he's likely to hit that value.  No idea what he'll get as FA, yeah he could go back to the Jays, he's a Toronto-native also.

He's projected for some SB, negative defensive value, and following slash-line:

.235 .313 .352

That comes out to a 98 wRC+ projection.  Amazing that a line like that is considered "average" hitting these days and by some miracle a projected 1.7 WAR.

Tauchman is a surprise. But if we aren’t getting nibbles on Bellinger, then Tauchman is too well-paid to be a fifth outfielder.

Still, I can’t believe there was no trade value there. Maybe there’s an off-season medical issue?

Someone who knows such things, please tell me about Finnegan. I've read he was dominant 1st half last season. Then he couldn't miss bats with his 97mph fastball.

At 34, Is he worth a deal? A 97mph fastball might be what this team needs to join Hodge, Pearson and ?

Phil Bickford to the cubs on a (everyone, relax) minor league deal.

Searched his name to see if anyone else has posted about this and came to the conclusion that everyone here thought he sucked/was washed up back in August. So there’s that.

His velo was fine so I wouldn't be super worried about his second half numbers.  Likely just overperformed a bit in the first half and under in the second.

The reason he got non tendered is likely just salary.  Guys who rack up saves tend to have their salaries get really juiced in arbitration.  Finnegan was due almost $9M in arb this year, and is realistically probably more of a $6-7M/year type arm.

IYO, would he be worth a 1 or 2 year deal, similar to neris but at a much lesser $ ?

I'd guess he gets something like 2 years and $6M per year.

His numbers are solid, and he's got plenty of late inning experience, which does have value.  But the guys who get closer to 10M per year miss a lot more bats or generate a stupid number of groundballs.  Like Neris was a disaster but he had a 30% strikeout rate the 3 years before coming here,  Finnegan is at 23% the last three years.

I expect the Cubs to sign Hoby Milner. Funky lefty previously with the Brewers. Seems like an obvious signing. So if they do, is that a good thing or a bad thing?
