When is Hairston going to start to earn all of this love on this board. So far, he plays like he deserves to be on the bench. Mediocre defense, hitting and speed. That's all I've seen from him.

You have a picture of a player's head coming out of a toilet in your signature but are complaining become some posters were not entirely polite? Interesting.

I'm sorry for insulting your son on Mother's Day, Mrs. Macias.

That's pretty much what I expected. Very high brow stuff.

I said I was sorry. You're being mean-spirited and unforgiving, ma'am.

No personal attacks, please.

That's strike 2. Avoid the personal attacks and stay on topic. Thanks in advance.

Well, might as well get an early start on tommorow's bad moves by Dusty. According to Cubs.com, Dusty is starting Leicester and moving Dempster into the closer's role for now. Leicester has a 5.40 era in Iowa. I'm sure tommorow will turn out well.

I would think the decision to start Leicester would be on Hendry moreso than Baker.

Is there any final word on who was sent back down?

Is it really fair to get worked up over a 5.40 ERA in 5 IP? Especially when all 3 runs surrendered by Leicester came as he was hitting his pitch limit in his first start and was obviously tiring. I wish he'd have been stretched out before he came up, but I'm not that upset that Leicester is the one replacing Dempster in the rotation. I'm more upset that Dempster and his lovely control will now be closing.

It's not just the 5.40 era in Iowa. It's not like he was stellar when he was pitching for the Cubs either. And they didn't stretch him out that much at all so he's probably going to be done after 4 innings or so. Our bullpen is probably going to get worn out on Monday. Good thing we have a day off on Thursday.

They aren't anticipating that he'll last long.

The Trib[/url]"]

The Cubs will call up Triple-A Iowa right-hander Jon Leicester to take Dempster's spot in the rotation on Monday against the New York Mets. Leicester likely will pitch three or four innings at the most, and the bullpen will have to carry the load. The Cubs won't need a fifth starter again until May 24.

He is struggling ocf. He has to step up and show he can play or when Walker comes back he's going to be behind the great Jose Macias in the pecking order.

I hope Leicester does well, it'll increase the odds of going with a 5 man rotation despite the days off. They have to take advantage of the days off for Z and Prior.

I'd love to see the kid do well and be effective through 4 or 5. I see a 4 inning 3 run outing for Leicester on Monday.

It's hard to refute the notion that Dusty is trying to lose. It really is.

In my current state of mind regarding the Cubs, I really think he is trying to lose. I've been disappointed in the past. But never so early. Not even when they went 0-11.

There's no other possible explanation for the way Dusty manages this team. In all fairness though, I think our bullpen is trying to lose games for us as well. :wall:

Batting Leicester and then putting in Welly to start the next inning. How many times has he done that with our pitchers this year?

I don't know. But I commented on that irritant to my wife and turned the TV off at that point because I was becoming needlessly frustrated with something I cannot change no matter how passionately or persuasively I write or speak. Hakuna Matata. Or something.

And using Leicester to sac bunt Corey to 2nd, instead of stealing. I guess Dusty was scared of Mike Piazza's cannon of an arm.

The red light that patterson apparently has is one of the worst things going this year, adn there's a lot of bad stuff. you can't tell me that he's deciding not to steal on his own...

burnitz, now, he should always have the green light...

(hairston. kinda hard for the pitcher to bat with the leadoff man on base)

Oops, I meant Hairston, not Corey. Regardless, if Leicester is not pitching in the next inning you have to PH for him and have Hairston attempt a steal while Piazza is catching.

Yep.

Let's see... If corey gets on first and 2b is open (and piazza is catching) he should be stealing every pitch. If Neifi gets on first and 2b is open (and piazza is catching) he should be stealing every pitch. If Lee gets on first and 2b is open (and piazza is catching) he should be stealing every pitch. If Hairston gets on first and 2b is open (and piazza is catching) he should be stealing every pitch.

Did I miss anyone?

Yeah, Hollandsoworth. Baker said he can steal a base for ya.
