Apparently, Perez is starting at 2B again today.

He must really want to keep Hairston fresh.

Now the SCORE is reporting that Dusty has changed the lineup so Hairston is now leading off and playing 2B. Not to fear Perez lovers, he's spelling for Ramirez today because of the "weather".

Ugh... I'm all for protecting ARam... but with Blanco and Perez in the lineup, we're in for a longgg day today.

Heh. I posted a question on those question mailbags to Carrie Muskat. Just got an e-mail from that person.

Would someone please explain to me what is in the world is wrong with Dusty Baker? Having Jose Macias being the first pinch hitter off the bench? It seems to me that Dusty is playing himself to get himself fired. In no way you should pinch hit a career .300 OBP (Macias) player over a .333 OBP (Hairston) player, let alone that Jason Dubois is by far more superior in terms of talent and younger than Macias?

The answer I got?

lot of dusty's moves are based on matchups. macias probably has seen that pitcher before, or macias can bunt and make better contact than dubois.

Somone needs to tell Carrie that Macias cannot make better contact than Dubois. And when Macias does make contact it is usually a weak ground out or fly out. There's a reason he has a career OBP as low as he does. He sucks!

It kind of makes sense to me, note the kind of - Dubois was on pace to whiff 150 times over 600 ABs in AAA last year. So what does that translate to in the bigs - 175 Ks? I think the prevailing notion among baseball managers is that someone who whiffs that much doesn't make contact regularly.

This whiffing/lack of contact is really Dubois' only glaring weakness. I think if he wasn't such a wind machine he'd be our starting LF this year. (Yes I know, Dusty stil wouldn't play him, he hates rookies, that's still my story.)

Actually a quick one. The faster they get their outs the quicker the game.

By the way, I think Blanco will hit a homerun today.

Dubois' strike-outs have nothing to do with his not playing left. And what's even more amazing, even with striking out 175 times, he could still get on base more than Macias. And Macias has a pretty high strike out rate himself without the benefit of any power.

Wind is supposedly blowing in at 25 MPH today. :( You have more faith in BLANCOPOWER than I do.

You mean to tell me we're fielding the "forfeit lineup" already this season?!?

Great [expletive] move, Dusty. Let's really stick it to Prior.

Fire Dusty NOW.

You don't think Dubois' very high K rate (if he started the whole year he'd probably finish with the most Ks of any starter, and on a team with CP that's pretty high) have anything to do with Dusty's perception of him? The guy plays good enough D, has very good power, his main weakness is his inability to keep his Ks down and make contact. You don't think this is a factor?

I bet yer thinking it's just cuz he's a rook, which may be the main reason. But the Ks are an important secondary reason I figure. Just my two cents.

Is Blanco catching? If so, you could put Barrett at third. Remember, Barrett has played +120 games at 3B. He'd still be available to spell Blanco if he gets injured as he is already in the game.

Vance, if I read ZZ correctly, he's trying to say what Dusty is thinking. Can't disagree with that.

Dusty doesn't think creatively. I wouldn't mind seeing Fontenot get the start at 3B over Neifury.

you see, its this kind of thinking that will never get through to dusty. why play barrett? WE GOT NEIFI!!!

It almost seems liek Dusty's just sticking it to everyone who doesn't support his moves.

It's like he's saying:

"Okay, FINE. I'll start Hairston. But I'll show you all- If I want to play Neifi Perez, I'll play him, by God. I'll start him at third and bench ARAMIS. How do you like THAT?"

Thats why he is a ML manager and you're not.

(I just love that one!)

Ehh, I dont care that Neifi is playing third for ARam today, we have to sit Ramirez sometime. I just hope that Neifi is batting in the bottom third of the order today, leaving him to hit second yesterday was just lazy.

Sounds about right. Prior might have the most power in the lower third of our order today :P

It's a shame we've got the France Lineup going against Peavy during Prior's first start, you'd like to see him get some run support to start the year off, but who knows?

I don't care if that's what Dusty's thinking or not. Either way, it shows that Dusty has no clue who to send up there for a pinch hit appearance.

Look here.

Macias has not had an OBP over 300 since 2001?!?! He's had one year where his slugging eeked above .400. So what if he doesn't K as often as Dubois. That just means he finds other more inventive ways of making outs. He's not very good. Won't ever be very good. It's bad enough to have him on the team, and for that Jim Hendry is at fault, but it's worse that Dusty uses him as the tenth man when he should be the last guy used and then only in the case of an emergency.

Posted

No, you don't have to sit Aramis... and you especially don't have to sit him one week into the season.

This is absurd, yet again. I'm actually leaning towards the "I'll play Neifi if I want to mentality."

I've never understood Dusty, and I never will.

Posted

Maybe ARams hamstrings are bugging him and Dusty is playing Perez because of it. Also, he wants to give Barrett some rest and not play him.

Let's face it, we don't know what's going on behind the scenes either. Maybe someone tested positive for steroids.

Dusty has already said that Blanco will catch Prior. With the way Prior pitched to Barrett last season, I cant really argue it.
