Why spend $237 million  when you can assemble a last place team for less than half of that?

Ego pumper, justin-case.

Billionaires have a very unique way of not losing $1 of the $237m

Got to love these random pop in, pop out appearances for half an inning by Jed and Carter Hawkins every now and then. They never actually say anything worth listening to.

Dansby is like a stock that hits support every time he gets near .200.  He has 1 or 2 decent games to look like he is starting to figure things out, then goes right back in the tank for an extended period of time.

The cusp of what? They are mediocre. That’s Jed’s goal and the Rickett’s marching orders.

The stands will be filled with out of towners staying in the Ricketts overpriced  Hilton Garden Inn.

I mean I personally consider a team full of young pitching, a couple young position players, one of the best farm systems in baseball on the cusp. Do they need to supplement in free agency? Of course. Should they make a big trade from their prospect capitol for a ready made major league player? Of course. The ingredients of a good team is there. The “cusp” means not there yet, but close. I do think this team is close. It’s up to Jed to get us there. Soto would be a hell of a good start. The prospects are there to make a big move. Which is why I’m beating the drum of Jed/Ricketts showing some horsefeathers urgency. How long are we going to wait all these prospects out? What if they bust? You need to make moves now.

The game has started, so I’m sure everyone would appreciate if we take this conversation elsewhere.

Cracks me up when they do interviews with Jed or Hawkins when the Cubs bat and 3 minutes later it's over cause they went 1-2-3 in less then 10 pitches 😅

Cause the Cubs only last 3 minutes when they bat 😅

Are they though?  None of their top three starting pitchers are particularly young.  Yes, they have some intriguing young arms, but it's not like they have a rotation full of young aces.

Just wondering who actually deserves the true credit for imanaga signing from initial scouting to going out on a limb and suggesting the signing? I mean his deal is so much cub weighted they should offer him a raise in pay out of pure principals and sheer guilt. Haha.

That the problem with this team that I've been saying all along, they have a bunch of guys that will look good for a few games and make you think they figured it out but then go cold for a long stress.

Who does? Steele is 29 and under control for 4 more years. Brown has looked really good. Horton is still an elite SP prospect. Wesneski still has good BORP potential if he can figure out how to get lefties out. Wicks is injured, but he’s not dead. It’s not perfect, but a lot of potential there. And again, you still are allowed to make moves in free agency and trades.

Wowser 29 and still 4 years under control. And very little usage mileage on his arm. He's someone to keep imo. Not someone I'd off-load.

Imanaga (30) and Steele (29) are the two guys you build around now.

I don't think there's a true Ace available via FA unless Cole opts out, but I'd like to see them add a solid veteran SP to go with Steele and Imanaga.

Then go with two of these guys to fill out the bottom of rotation.

Assad(27) Wicks(24) Brown(24) Kilian(27) Wesneski(26) Horton(22) Franklin (24)

This is a typical Cub performance vs an NL wild card contender skating around 500. If they played slumping first place AL teams and the Rockies they’d be watchable.

You can say that again!

Other than Happ and Seiya hitting around their career averages and a promising season from Busch this team is full of misplaced hype. Dansby has 2 seasons with a 4+ WAR, Bellinger had an outlier 2023 sandwiched between 3 terrible seasons in LA and even Nico performing at his yearly averages they simply overachieved last season including their pythag win loss %. Bullpen still stinks and wasn’t improved in the offseason….
