Law doesn't seem impressed with the Cards draft outside of the first pick.  He didn't even mention their 6th round pick.

The theme of the Cardinals draft is “height ain’t nothin’ but a number,” as you could put any three of their top-10 picks in a trench coat and you might get Aaron Judge.

Overall he seems to like the upside of the Cubs picks because of the prominent tools most guys have flashed.

Ronny Cruz seems significantly under-scouted since he moved from the DR to Florida before his junior year and had a shortened senior year due to a knee injury. Would be cool if the Cubs nailed that pick due to luck/hard work by the area scout.

Nothing terribly surprising right now. Thought they might get some savings on Mathis.

I've been expecting Southisene to be a slight overslot, but we'll see.

So the Cubs have $939,010 over slot they can offer Southisene and Lovich (and maybe Mangus).

Southisene’s slot is $600,800. The 11th-20th rounders are $150k slot.

For example, they could sign Southisene $1M, Lovich $600k and Magnus $250k and have about $20k left. That’s 3rd round money for Southisene, 4th round money for Lovich and 7th round money for Mangus.

So as I figure it, with just Southisene left to sign out of the top 10 picks, the Cubs have $479,600 left plus 5% overage of $490,115. That's a total of $969,715 left. So either Lovich or Southisene is getting quite a bit more than I expected.

Will be interesting to see how they split that >$900 discretionary up between Southisene and lovich, (and maybe Mangus.)

I've seen snippets of quotes from Kantro on a bunch of the picks, Lovich included.  But I don't think I've read what he said, if anything, about Southisene.  I wonder how they project him?  Just a really good contact-hitter/fielder?  Perhaps a Hoerner-type wannabe?

Someone please remind me, with the new processes in place in MiBL none of these players will see any time in pro ball this year?

They’re not allowed to play Rk ball, everything else is open

To add, there's a cap of 180 minor league players per org for the regular season. Not sure how close the Cubs are to the cap but that is one of the reason we saw a few recent releases/opt outs.

You can expect most pitchers will not pitch but that's more due to rest.

The Cubs Went After College Hitters With Top-End Exit Velocities

Of the 71 college hitters drafted with a 90th percentile exit velocity exceeding 107 mph, five went to the Cubs. The leader of that group is first rounder Cam Smith, whose 111.3 mph 90th percentile EV ranked among the leaders in college baseball. He’s followed by 19th rounder Owen Ayers, seventh rounder Ivan Brethowr, second rounder Cole Mathis and eighth rounder Edgar Alvarez. The clarity of the Cubs model-driven approach is clear to see, as this group of higher EV hitters also boasted zone contact rates above 80% and chase rates of 25% or lower. The Cubs clearly value offensive profiles defined by power, contact and approach.
