Yes! I think that’s a really good decision by the front office. Let’s not let the season get out of hand in April by counting on freaking Smyly.

Edit: Not saying Brown is a savior or anything. But I’d rather we go down with him than repeating the Smyly experience.

Brown getting called up *today* might be an indicator that he's going to be used in a pen or piggyback role, unless the rotation is getting shuffled to keep him on a schedule.

True. I actually thought Palencia would be called up and then then the rotation spot was up to pitch they would send down Cuas and bring Brown up for the spot. I hope this means he will get the next start, but I am not entirely sure it does. It might be Smyly.

Brown looked fantastic during ST. So did Killian for that matter. Hope both of them keep it up when they get their chances.

Per Sharms, the rotation schedule will remain the same. No shuffling.

I’m with you. I’d really rather fail with Brown than watch Smyly again. He seems like a nice guy and all that, but this is becoming redundant. Let’s at least roll the dice on some upside.

So what does that mean? I don’t see that statement to confirm Brown takes Steele’s spot. I hope that is what it means, but really it is a nothing statement. So Hendricks, Wicks, Imanaga and Assad go the next 4. No shuffling of them. Which brings the Cubs to Steele’s spot. Whether it is Smyly or Brown there wouldn’t be any rotation shuffling.

I think if the Cubs were bringing up Brown for the BP, they'd have brought up Palencia. It isn't like Palencia doesn't have big stuff, so I would suspect the reason they wanted Brown was the stamina and ability to start.

TBH, I kind of expected Palencia either way. He comes up to give them an extra pen arm until they need a starter to take Steele’s spot. Then send Cuaz down and bring up Brown to take the start. But I do understand your thought. And most likely it is correct. I just don’t see the comment about the rotation staying the same as any indication of what they will do when Steele’s spot comes up. I do think Brown will take the start. But to me nothing has been cleared up by anything the Cubs said.

The Cubs aren't going to clear that up until they have to I suspect. No reason to tip your hand.

Looking back at your original post regarding the rotation order I see you are just answering someone who suggested the rotation might be shuffled. I misunderstood your post and thought you were posting it as some sort of proof that Brown was getting the spot. Reading it again, I see I errored. I actually think we are saying the same thing. It appears they brought up Brown to start, but that could chance depending on usage. And there is no reason to announce their plans since it could be very fluid anyway.

Would be shocked if (at least) one of the games on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday against the Rockies is rained out.  Thursday would be a make-up day if necessary which means there's a day off (from rain) earlier than anticipated.  That would impact the rotation as well.

Rain predicted all three days
