Does the goodness of Dansby, Bellinger, Merryweather, Fulmer, Tauchman erase the badness of Smyly, Mancini, Hosmer, Taillon, Barnhart?  Probably but damn

Taillon is bad so this isnt surprising. Still sucks. The bullpen should already be up and I'd be quick to pull him here if he gets in any more trouble. Cubs bats can keep them in this.

These errors have been pretty costly, Cubs have been able to eek out playing this sloppy against bottom feeding teams. That won't really work against good teams....

How does ESPN have all five of these runs as "earned" when errors directly lead to a few of them?

The errors were for the extra bases, not for them reaching base in the first place.

I never thought Taillon was any good, but obviously he wasn't this bad before. What is different this year?

he throws 86 mph right down the middle

Despite the error in the first all the runs would’ve scored after the homer by Canha.

The 5th run is now unearned. Usually they’ll mark it as earned and then change it to unearned if necessary.

Yet his ERA is a full 1.5 runs higher than ANY other year in his career

Think he mentioned the sweeper the Cubs tried to add to his pitch mix has thrown him off. Just another case of the Cubs tinkering something the wrong way.
