It would’ve been nice to avoid them altogether, but Leiter hadn’t pitched since Monday and Alzolay only threw three pitches, so not the worst outcome. That said, someone needs to emerge as a fourth reliable option with Fulmer out.

Reds down heading into the 9th.  If they lose the Cubs will be 2 games clear of a playoff spot, if they come back then the Cubs leapfrog Arizona back into WC2

My vote is for the Dbacks to sweep.

So any other options available to come help the relief corps? Get Palencia and Wesneski outta here.  What happened to Wesneski? He was so promising last year and in spring training.

Probably spent too much time partying with the proud boys instead of working on his craft.

Reds currently up 6-4 in the 10th so I guess were trending towards WC2 tonight.

AZ bullpen very Cub-like this evening. Up 4-1, the pen gave up 1 in the 8th, 2 in the 9th, and so far, 3 in the 10th , and the Reds have a man on and still nobody out.

Looks like the Cubs will jump back into the #2 WC spot.

It's so hard to know who to root for right now, but my general preference is to knock a team or two further back from the race even if that means another team jumps ahead of the Cubs.

That’s where I’m at but either outcome is fine.

tied up at 7-7

Was listening to the Pirates radio broadcast and they were going nuts over Amaya signalling for Palencia to bounce a pitch when up 4. They just wouldn't shut up about it

Lmao now the Diamondbacks have the tying run on 3rd with 1 out

Quite the baseball savants, you and I. That’s what we get for trusting the Reds BP.

Yeah, we're starting to see a bit of a gap open. It's not much but it's there.

Giants are 4-10 in their tough stretch, which wouldn't be the end of the world except they lost 4 of 5 to the Angels and A's right before it. Plus they play the Reds next week. Miami's now lost 8 of 10 and are at .500. If the Reds lose tonight they'll be 2 back.

The DBacks inexplicably sacrifice bunt down 1 with Jace Peterson due up. Peterson strikes out leading to Arizona losing the game.

Where have we seen something like that before?

With Tauchman's struggles lately,  5 for last 39, you think they might consider going to PCA come September 1st or maybe go back to Mervis at 1B ?

I think that PCA is a no brainer to get the call.  He's the best defensive OF'er in the system, and he's the fastest guy in the system.  And he's actually been hitting.  He would help offensively, defensively, and on the base paths.  He's the perfect call up for a play off run.  I think that Little should get called up too.

Wicks > Wesneski seems like a piggyback that could work. You might get a primarily right handed hitting lineup with Wicks on the mound, which feeds nicely into Wesneski. On the flip side, there could be some good pinch hitters ready to jump on Wesneski. Either way, I think it may be necessary to save the pen with how Wicks is probably limited to 80ish pitches per game and if he’s gonna K a bunch of dudes, he’s more often than not going to get there in 4-5 innings max.

Wicks should not be part of any type of piggy back.  He'll be able to go 6-7 innings with regularity if they let him.

Demote Wesneski and call up Little

I think that they will just add Little to the 40 and call him up next week.

I expect to see Luke Little get called up
