Twitter is being dumb and I can’t embed tweets but Shaw has a hustle double and a single with 112 EV so far in a 3-hit game.

The bat certainly looks the part. I wonder if he opens next year in AA. That would give him an ETA of early 2025 if things go well.

And a solo bomb in the 1st inning in game 2.

My one complaint of Shaw so far is the lack of walks for a college bat, but considering the Ks aren't high and he's hitting .400 with lasers everywhere maybe he just needs to get promoted to AA to have the chance, which is a crazy signal itself.

Shaw's 1st SB HR was a RF line deal, this one well off the line but again RF.  I wonder if he's in the Hoerner mode (until recently), where he's a pretty committed RF guy?  Hoerner has improved more recently when he uses the whole field, including pull side.

Yeah I don't think the walks will come for a bit.  Shaw's book is "hyper aggressive" and he's showing he's borderline already too good for A+.  If he's going to keep doing this kind of damage here, he'll just continue to be hyper-aggressive.  It's probably going to take a run of failure to really beat it out of him, not sure that's going to happen in South Bend.

BJ's OPS is at .864.  What are updates on BJ's defense?  Last year I think it reported as bad wherever he played.  But this year, a little more consistent?

Any updated perceptions on Ballesteros defense-wise?

At 3B he’s not particularly quick or strong armed, but probably has done enough all around to keep advancing there. He was a very mobile 1B for MB and SB last year, thought he stood out in what little I saw and that’s probably why I mentally think of him as s 1B prospect

Thanks for observations, Tom.  That's bad.

I have zero interest in a 5'10" 1st baseman defensively.  Short levers, the catch radius on throws is unacceptable.  Personally I don't ever want to see a 5'10" primary 1B.

So, for me that means he's a DH/bad-3B prospect.

Maybe he can develop into an anti-awful left-fielder if his offense is good enough to make it worthwhile?
