Wonder if Cuas was the plan in this one or forced into it because Ross blew 2 of his higher leverage relievers in the 6th (yes I’m admitting Fulmer is back on the fringes of that circle)

I think the plan was for Leiter + Merryweather to get 7 outs given where the lefties are in the order, but when it took Leiter 3 hitters and 15 pitches to get 1 out they decided it wasn't worth it to try and squeeze a little more out of him and went to Cuas.

If they save Alzolay for a potential save, relievers left for the 9th (unless Merryweather goes 2) are Wesneski, Kilian, Smyly and Palencia

Yeah I don’t think you can’t both pull your starter early AND pull your middle relievers early when they are pitching well for matchup purposes. Especially in a 1 run game where the chances of being in a tied game late are decent.
