I've been to Vegas three times. It was only super hot on one of those trips. The other two it was pleasantly in the upper 70's.

Vegas is set up now where there's a million non-gambling things to do. Its worth it just for food and shows.

A's to Sacramento for 2025 - ?

Quote

The agreement with Sacramento is a three-year lease with a team option for a fourth season in case the team's planned ballpark on the Las Vegas Strip is not completed in time for the 2028 season. The A's will share Sutter Health Park, which holds roughly 14,000 fans, with the Sacramento River Cats, the San Francisco Giants' Triple-A team. Terms of the lease were not disclosed.

Thread title updated.

  • Outshined_One changed the title to A's to Sacramento, then maybe Vegas?

Does San Jose even have a stadium big enough? The San Jose Giants are there but wikipedia tells me their stadium only has a capacity of 4200. Raley Field is 14000.

and close to 4000 of that capacity is grass lawn space in the outfield, only about 10-11k of actual seating.  Also read that based on the way it was built, it would be difficult to expand it at all to add new seating.

Going to be really weird, they should have just stayed in Oakland but whatever.

Apparently they're also just going to be called "The A's" and not the Sacramento A's during that time, which is...interesting.

ESPN just posted a lengthy article on the move to Sacramento.

Quote

Sources close to the negotiations in both Oakland and Sacramento believe Ranadive is making a calculation that Las Vegas is never going to happen. "Vivek is definitely bright," one source who requested anonymity said. "He made an assessment: Vegas will eventually fall apart and wherever the team is at that moment is where it will stay. He's not the only one who believes that."

Woof.

But there's no way they'll stay in a 10k capacity stadium, which surely means they don't have a huge head start on any other city that promises them a ballpark, right?

They won't want to stay in a 10K capacity stadium. It's a big if, but if the Vegas thing did collapse on itself, their options may be pretty limited, especially since John Fisher has very publicly shown his ass through this entire process.

Do we end up in a situation where Manfred/the other owners force him to sell using the "best interests of baseball" power the commissioner is granted?  At this point it seems like about the only thing that could really get the A's out of the mess Fisher has caused.

Seems like it would make sense to have him sell to Joe Lacob, who has a standing offer to buy the team.

MLBPA is pushing back against this move (to Sacramento). Small stadium without MLB amenities, average summer temperatures in the 90's/100's, etc.

Union was never consulted about this temporary move
