after their 4th win a row, the cubs are tied for 3rd place in the nl central with the mighty pittsburgh pirates.

highlights from yesterday's 3-1 cubs vicotry:

* alec mills took big boi's lyrics in "the rooster" literally and threw his back out:

* mark leiter jr. came to rescue with 5.1 innings of 1-run baseball.

* patrick wisdom knocked in a run in the 8th with an rbi single.

for today's finale, keegan thompson takes the hill against the red sox's MYSTERY STARTER. who could it be?!?!?

in any event, it's time for funk/disco music. a million cool points if you can figure out (without the use of google, of course) what chart-topping song from 1990 sampled this track:

go cubs!

It had already reached the point of absurdity, but there's even more reason to change the rules around plays at 2B/3B if we're gonna let defenders kneel in front of the base without the ball and take away most of the target to slide at.

That type of play has always bugged the crap out of me and yes it should definitely be banned.

Wick gave up 18 runs in 12 innings in June, but gets the job done even with the free runner in the 10th!

And then there was the 11th.

Wild pitch altered the game. Not sure from the bleachers how bad, but wish Higgens could have kept it in front of him.

Infield fly rule on the pop up if not for that.

I wish the Cubs would win more extra innings games, mostly because I don't want my complaining about how much I hate the extra innings rules to seem like sour grapes
