This would certainly cut the legs out from under The Rose Bowl

Rotate title game between there and Indy?

And McCaskeyville right? Right??

In things that will be much easier to divide when Civil War 2 happens.

11.2 of the 16 Big Ten Schools will be in 2020 Blue States. The 4.8 in red states: Iowa, 80% of Nebraska, Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue

Conversely, 15 of 16 SEC schools will be in 2020 Red States. Only Georgia plays in a blue (for now) state

And now the P12 is trying to find teams.

I'm sure it can all be figured out but I thought ND was pretty much locked into the ACC if they join a conference. Plus they almost certainly will not join a conference unless absolutely forced too. And if they did join a conference they seem to have little appetite to join the Big Ten despite multiple reasons it makes a lot of sense.

If Oregon and Washington want to join the Big 10 I feel like they should do it.

ESPN's Heather Dinich tweeted yesterday that unlike full ACC members, ND would only have to pay up to get out of the media grant-of-rights for non-football sports. As for the 'locked into' thing, that's my understanding too, but if other ACC schools start bolting, which they will, I think that provision would be pretty easy to get out of.

I'm on record here as pretty much loathing ND in really any conference and specifically the B1G, but if these two superleagues are going to coalesce (and in the process largely lock everyone else out of the playoff) and their mutant forms aren't going to bear much resemblance to what the original idea of a conference was anyway, the Big 20 makes more sense for ND than the SEACC.

So if both want to get to 20, B1G taking Oregon, Washington, Notre Dame, and another(Colorado? Utah?) seems to make the most top of head sense. Then the SEC would take their pick of 4 ACC teams: probably Clemson, probably FSU, and 2 of Louisville, UNC, Miami, V-Tech, and Virginia?

North Carolina and Georgia Tech were rumored B1G targets before the ACC signed their grant-of-rights several years ago. I have no idea if they still would be. I think Miami would make sense for the SEC and UVA seems like a cultural fit in the B1G (if that matters anymore).

So now the B1G has solid coverage and/or schools in the NYC, Chicago and LA markets. who you got SEC, Birmingham?

They have the Dallas market, which is effectively unattainable by the B1G at this point.

As for the B1G waiting on ND before going to Washington/Oregon, I'm wondering if the B1G will look at other ACC teams if ND agrees to join, shoot for a UNC or some ACC rival that ND wants to maintain.

And Houston, Atlanta and I suspect all of Florida soon.

At this point, I'm expecting the Big Ten to expand to 20 teams, then split each sport into two 10-team divisions based on team quality that can vary year-to-year, so the top 10 division can still be referred to unironically as the "Big Ten"

Ha - relegation to create a "Big 10" and "Little 10"?

Its going to be weird at first to play, say, UCLA in an in-conference game for a while. I love that the B1G growing conference and its only a testament to their purchasing power really, but it almost is starting to feel like it could rival the NFL in size and scope. Same for the SEC really.

Buddy of mine who is connected to the SEC office says that Arizona State and the SEC have been communicating this week. That would seem like an odd fit but that is a pretty huge TV market.

Given the B1G's emphasis on both academics and athletics, plus adding TV metros, and enhancing rivalries; I'd like to see:

- ND (with USC joining, most of their traditional rivals are here now)

- Pitt (biased after paying $100+k for my daughter's degrees, but the rivalry with PSU would be great)

- UNC and Virginia (Mid-Atlantic)

- Georgia Tech (Atlanta)

- UCLA & USC (Southern Cal market)

- Cal Berkeley & Stanford (lock down the bay area)

- Oregon and Washington (PNW)

Yep - I went to 26. What the hell at this point. All AAU schools except ND, but they're still stronger academically than several other members. I thought about raiding the Big 12, too. But I couldn't find AAU schools that I wanted as much as the Pac10 or ACC schools.

I’m kind of envisioning things still lining up mostly geographically. I can see two super conferences, with Mega-B1G being the western and northern schools and the Mega-SEC being the southern and eastern ones. So in your scenario the only ones you wouldn’t get would be UNC, VA, and GA Tech, which are all pretty solidly in the mega-SEC zone

Yep, Big Ten and other 10. Increase the # of high profile games in the conference, keep up the "Big Ten" moniker, incentivize the top schools to keep playing hard to the end, and guarantee a Michigan-Ohio State game every year (as long as neither finishes at the bottom of the conference).

Wondering what becomes of basketball dominant schools like Duke, Syracuse, Villanova, Memphis…

I would love to see a relegation type scenario for college football.

Different conferences for different sports perhaps. The Phoenix Suns don’t play in the NFL do they? Haha
