Gomes really does mash lefties, so while it's weird you do want both catchers in the lineup. Especially while Frazier is out.

I would think you'd DH Contreras though unless he's one of those guys who vocally hates it. Stro's not a guy where you need Willson's howitzer behind the plate (and realistically Gomes is gonna be around longer so it's more worth getting him and Marcus on the same page).

The problem is that if the catcher gets hurt and you need to use your backup, then you lose the DH for the rest of the game

I hate using the backup catcher as DH

With how Willson has worn down in years past I honestly wish we would DH him more to try and keep him fresher. Especially with Gomes being an overqualified backup and capable of a starter load.

I'm probably missing one from 2020 but I think that might be the best hit ball he's had from the right side

Hermosillo is not long for the Cubs

Eh, he’s only taking ABs and PT away from Heyward and maybe some Happ. It’s not like he’s blocking Davis or Suzuki or anything. He’s only 27 and was good in AAA last year, see if he’s maybe a thing. He’s not taking time away from guys who are on the next good cubs teams. He might be a legit good defender in CF too.

Some day soon when I'm more in the mood to argue I'll start making snide comments about all those people who were happy we 'diversified our offensive approach' and brought in all these modern versions of Juan Pierre because they were tired of our old dudes hitting 30 dongs but striking out a little too much.

Why do we have to swerve from one extreme to the other? The old offense was broken and I was sick of seeing stats like “the Cubs are hitting .087 as a team over the last 15 games” or whatever. But we didn’t have to go completely in the other direction. That said this was never supposed to be a final form offense.
