Chavez is not going to be around long.

He shouldn't have been around to begin with. He hasn't been anything but terrible since 2018.

He was pretty good last year on the surface. 30 appearances, 2.14 ERA, 2.01 FIP unless the underlying numbers suggest he was much worse

I would not have Madrigal at the top of the order. Bat him like 6th or 7th behind the guys that will actually work good ABs and get on base frequently.

Hasn’t Madrigal came up with guy(s) on base in all 3 ABs?

He has. I mean there's not really a great place to put him in my eyes because I'm not a fan of his approach. He just doesn't work good ABs.

Boy did Chavez suck the air out of the stadium.

Agree. Not a fan. Only thing I enjoyed about him was my butt hurt Sox fan friends that loved him and hated the implosion of CK. Wish we could have thrown in some stuff to get Vaughn back instead, but doubt that was on the table.

0 hr in 33.2 IP, ,267babip was the lowest of his career, no increase in velocity. The only thing that suggested any real progress was a change in pitch usage.

You'd have preferred he given up more home runs? His xERA and xFIP were fine last year too.

It's completely unsustainable. His xFIP WAS 3.69, nearly double his era. His Siera was 3.58. Yeah its not awful, but coming off two awful years prior, I'm not aching to give a guy like that a roster spot.

2.14 ERA in 30ish innings last year

Those are very good numbers. Lucky does not automatically mean bad. You can be good AND have luck make you look great, and that's exactly what happened for Chavez last year.

The bullpen is going to be a roller coaster ride this year.

It's the right thing to do from a team building perspective, particularly when you're not putting your foot fully on the gas to win games, but yeah the next six weeks or so while they sort out the bullpen are gonna require some Pepto

Gomes has sneaky had one of the worst defensive games I've ever seen a major league catcher have. It hasn't really cost us anything though. He looks like the non Mirabelli catchers trying to catch Wakefield

Hopefully just a combo of new mitt and unfamiliarity with pitchers
