Really curious what he and Tepera net at. I'd guess a 45 FV via the Fangraphs' prospect parlance (an Org Top 10 caliber)

Really good point here RE Kantrovitz. I'll be a lot more okay with seemingly lesser names in this deal than I'd likely be otherwise.

Deichman is number 9 in their system by both MLB.com and Fangraphs', and could probably come up and play in MLB tomorrow. A little old but that's fun.

A 26 year old without huge numbers in Las Vegas who had big problems with contact and batting average at his past stops in the minors...meh. I might rather have a high upside lottery ticket or two.

A's #9 prospect on Fangraphs and MLB.com. 26 years old though

#8 on fangraphs

On the plus side, the BB% has nearly doubled to 19 1% this year while the K% is down to an acceptable 23%

Think he's #9 after they add Max Muncy in there

FWIW, Oakland had the 26th rated farm system coming into the year. I don't mind the move though, maybe we caught a guy on the upswing and he can contribute in the majors right away. I like the idea of getting some guys who are close to the majors.

Eh it's a fine start. I'd assume the other player coming back is Single-A lottery ticket. This kid seems to mash and I assume will be up in the majors shortly. He was drafted by Kantrovitz.

Vegas is a launching pad - for a guy who is supposed to have 70 raw power, four home runs is really disappointing. His BA is being propped up by a .400 babip. He had major contact issues in 2018 & 19. He's lost a bunch of development time to injuries.

I'm not saying he's going to be a bust and I'll trust K's knowledge of the guy...but the stats don't tell me a pretty story other than the big bump in walk rate and more manageable strikeout level in '21.

I'm gonna guess the Cubs are more interested in whatever the 2nd player is in the deal. Might be a lower ranked player in the rankings but some lottery ticket with potential. Much like getting Mike Olt in a deal with a bunch of decent arms.

A shame we're losing Chafin's mustache and personality. Maybe he comes back as a free agent.

Yeah, but he will look awesome in an Oakland A’s uniform. He’s going to look straight out of a 1977 Topp’s baseball card.

I saw someone suggest it may be an over correction to try to focus on contact over power for a bit. But idk, I'm not a scout. Again, pretty interested in the other prospect and hoping it's an intriguing arm.

Boy I like that deal a lot. Deichmann’s knocks heading into the year were present production and hit tool/K rate, and all of those are looking much better in 2021 even if you only look at his road numbers. I honestly had him in mind when thinking about deals for Kimbrel or Baez, so to get him for Chafin is good business.
