Tonight’s Cleveland starter has allowed 9 runs and 15 base runners in 6.1 IP this year. Tonight all 0’s for the Cubs through 2 innings. I’m sure he just figured things out.

32 pitches through 3. This dude is throwing a perfect game and a Maddux

Good to get 4 runs, still a bit disappointing that the Cubs couldn’t score with a 2nd and 3rd, 0 outs situation

Is it blasphemy to say that I think Dempster is doing a good job in the booth? Or am I just getting caught up in anyone who isn't Chris Myers being great by comparison?

No, I like him too. I feel like he figured out at some point midway last year he doesn't have to try so damn hard and he's been good since.

He's perfectly fine. JD is better, and I don't know why there's no seeming rhyme or reason who is doing what game these days, but none of those things are Dempster's fault.

I think he's perfectly fine. The 3 man booth when they do it is unnecessary but doesn't really bother me that much anymore. If they can stay within the JD, Boog, Dempster, Mowens, and Hughes group I'll be happy.

Myers, Grace, and Ryno (he's unavoidable) are absolutely terrible

Aramis Ramirez & Kenny Lofton for Bobby Hill

Aramis was interesting. He had already had roughly a full seasons worth of ABs (spread over 3 seasons) before his breakout year in 2001. His line in those first 3 seasons was .239/.290/.364/.654 which is pretty bad but those were his age 20-22 seasons. Then in 2001 he had a 122 OPS+ and looked to be breaking out only to completely regress in 2002 with a 72 OPS+. I seem to remember something about him playing through an injury. He had a partial bounce back for the Pirates in 2003 before the Cubs got him in July.

Bobby Hill was a top 50 prospect that we were all excited about but to me seemed more like a high floor low ceiling at a premium defensive position kind of guy. I know some here were very excited but I was very meh.

Mentioning this because I can sort of understand why the Pirates were ok giving up Aramis thinking his 2001 was maybe more the outlier than the parts of 5 seasons where he sucked. He had a high upside but a risk to hit that upside. They get a top 50 prospect in return. The Cubs fill their major 3B hole and if his 2003 is a return to 2001 form they have him under control for 3.5 seasons. From the Pirates perspective, I would have held firm at Aramis for Hill. Lofton probably could have gone in a separate trade and they'd have gotten more value for him, and they had no need at all for Jose Hernandez...didn't understand that one.

But yeah, Hill turned out to be a AAAA player, Aramis quite suddenly developed into a high end middle of the order hitter, Lofton was a major factor in the Cubs playoff run, Jose Hernandez played baseball I guess, I don't really remember his career after his 2nd Cubs stint. Disastrous trade for the Pirates who sucked for another decade before their brief run of relevance.
