I knew Harden came to camp out of shape, but he is doughy. He’s going to look like Chef from South Park soon.

Harden and Durant combined for 138 points in their first two games together, second most all time. What’s completely unsurprising is that Wilt holds the record at 151 points. It’s with some random dude named York Larese. What’s slightly more surprising, though not much, is that if Larese hadn’t scored at all in the two games, they’d still have the record. Wilt put up 139 in those two games, Larese had the other 12. As usual, there’s Wilt and then there’s everybody else when it comes to scoring records.

Only 4 teams in the East are currently over .500 and only 5 are .500 or better. By contrast, only 4 teams in the West are under .500 and 9 are over .500.

Hasn't this pretty much been the case for the better part of a decade now?

It’s early so I’m sure at least a couple more will get over .500. Usually it’s the 8 seed that’s sub .500 and occasionally the 7 seed. But yes, the West has been consistently better than the East for a couple decades. The 8 seeds had the same record in 16-17 and the East was actually better in 15-16, though that could be the West had a 73 and 67 win team that year while the East had a 10 win team. Prior to that the last time the 8 seed in the East had the better record was 98-99. The East has also had 14 sub .500 playoff teams in the past 20 years while the West has had 1, Portland last year.

rooting against the nets is fun

I like Durant but my dislike of Kyrie and Harden easily outweigh that.

Same. Durant is so fun to watch and arguably the best player in the league, and yes has his own weirdness with the social stuff. But [expletive] Kyrie and Harden take it to another level. I wish Durant wasn’t surrounded by such fools, he’s so much fun to watch and cheer for.

durant seems like an overall good guy but i just have a hard time taking him seriously with all the weird and insecure stuff he's always saying online. the fake account stuff kind of pushed it over the edge. and wasn't he whining about being removed for covid protocol the other day? it's a pandemic dude, having to miss some basketball games isn't that big of a deal.

i have no reason to think any of those 3 guys are bad people (except maybe kyrie i guess), but they are all just so annoying

Durant was pissed about being pulled because he didn’t test positive, was just around someone with a positive and he also already had the virus in the offseason/during the bubble. I think the science is still out but I think it’s possible once you’ve had it you can’t spread it anymore so guessing that’s where the frustration came from.

Not sure why this is. Probably due to the short layoff after last season, or maybe analytics causing longer midrange shots to go away. Or maybe one and done college players?

Think it’s part offenses being smarter and taking more efficient shots and defense definitely seems down this year. Don’t know if guys just aren’t trying as hard, they’re being coached not to (I’ve heard some podcasts how teams are coaching their defense to give up more 3s), or the short turn around. I listened to a pod last week and the average FG% of losing teams this year is like 44-48% which is the highest ever by far. The Pelicans lost a game shooting like 56% this year already.

There's probably a bit of small sample size in there also. Obviously this is pretty extreme and we're over 1/3 of the way through a normal season so it's not all or even mostly sample size, but there probably will be some regression to the mean.

It's a pretty ridiculous stat though.

So, the Meyers Leonard thing... Am I crazy to think it is entirely possibly that he really didn't know what the word meant? I had to hunt to even find out what he said, and I had never heard the term before. Obviously he used the word in the form of an insult, but that doesn't necessarily mean he knew its actual origin. Is this a case where maybe people should take the apology at face value and not assume intent that might not have existed? As I said, I certainly didn't know what the word meant and wouldn't have even thought twice about hearing it. I don't know anything about the guy, and he might be a complete jerk, but I still think we need to be willing to give people a break sometimes.

Like, you didn't know the origin of the word, or you didn't know it was an anti semitic derogatory insult?

Both.

I would have thought most baseball fans would have come across some discussion of the word given Enrique hernandez's nickname, but maybe its less known than I would have thought.

Meyers grew up in podunk central Illinois, he definitely grew up hearing that as an insult, even if he didn't really truly understand it. Chances are though, he had to have known it had some anti semetic connotation. Or maybe he's just dumb.

Zion is so horsefeathering good. He’s pretty much automatic in the paint. Stan Van Gundy has put him at the PG on slow trips down the court, and the guy either scores against a mismatch or shows really incredible passing ability.

Whether or not he knew the full meaning or origin he clearly knew it was a derogatory term in relation to race and used it in that manner.

Jamal Murray tore his ACL. Tough luck for Denver. Probably torpedoes their chances next season also because of how late in the season it is.
