The way I see it, the needs are pretty clearly a lefty setup guy and a competent Almora type. Watson and Pillar fit those to a T but those are common enough profiles that specific names don't matter a ton.

While unlikely given the logistics of each additional transaction, I would like an upgrade at DH and a longer term pen piece. I've mentioned Michael Brantley before for DH, and I think the appeal is obvious. I mean look at this lineup:

Brantley (DH)

Happ

Bryant

Rizzo

Contreras

Schwarber

Baez

Heyward/Pillar

Kipnis/Hoerner

Miguel Castro is a pen arm I'm REALLY high on. He's always had unreal stuff, and this year basically started throwing more first pitch strikes and traded a little vertical movement for horizontal movement on his slider. The ERA is still ugly, but the Ks and BBs have really gone in the right direction in addition to his already elite ground all rate. He'd also be around for two more years after this.

BRING HIM HOME

The Reds announced that they’ve reinstated reliever Pedro Strop from the injured list and designated him for assignment.

As long as we're having reunions, I wouldn't mind having LaStella coming off the bench as a PH in a critical situation.

Should've never let him go in the first place. Traded him so we could roster Descalso.

The Blue Jays have grabbed the first notable starting pitcher of deadline season, acquiring righty Taijuan Walker from the Mariners in exchange for a player to be named later. Both clubs have announced the trade. The PTBNL, per The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal (Twitter link), is someone not currently in Toronto’s 60-man player pool.

One pitcher off the market.

Asdrubal and Pillar remain my top two targets that are realistic and cheap. I’d personally try and add both and want them more than any reliever.

Apparently we are talking to DET about Maybin

Career 85 wRC+ Vs LHP

2018 80

2017 73

What in the world

Yeah I don’t get that. He can’t/doesn’t play CF anymore, doesn’t hit lefties, doesn’t do the contact thing, etc. I don’t see how he’s an upgrade over Almora or Hernan

The Mets DFA’d Juan Lagarese, he most likely sucks but if we are looking at bringing Maybin in I’d rather just sign him or Ervin and just spend money vs giving up even a nothing prospect for Maybin. Just trade for Pillar though, idiots.

You forgot the part that he's cheap. #PTR

Ervin, Holt and Pillar are all cheap too and I think better fits for what we need.

I'm mildly curious why the Angels are betting on Barreto. I mean, I get it, you still hold some intrigue about a guy who was as touted as Barreto was, considering he is only 24, but I probably would've gone after some young arm gambles if the intent was to be competitive soon, and use money to purchase a 2nd baseman in the winter. It's possible in this season, there really weren't young arms being offered, but I don't know ... Barreto seems like such an odd move for them, IMO, if the intent is to competitive soon, and LaStella seemed like one of the more intriguing bats available in this market.

I think it's interesting how bat first, no/weak glove guys like La Stella, Happ, Castellanos, and Winker are thriving during pandemicball, not sure why
Well, TLS and Castellanos thrived last year also.

Its really a meaningless sss.

Dom Smith and Clint Frazier are having coming out parties also but let's see these guys produce like this during a 6 month slog before we give much credence to it.

La Stella to the A's for Barreto

The A's are a badass team but it's interesting to see them add payroll in a year the internet is crying poor for teams and ownership is holding out their hands for stadium money

Billy probably fronting it and keeping the profits when he sells on La Stella in the off season.

I don’t think it’s realistic but man Marte would be a perfect addition to the team and help with what makes the offense struggle.

Cubs signed RHP AJ Ramos to a minor league contract.

Ramos signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers last month but was recently released. The former closer hasn't pitched in the majors since having labrum surgery on his right shoulder back in June of 2018. Jesse Rogers of ESPN says that Ramos will go to the team's alternate site for now but could be called up soon.

They misspelled Pedro Strop.

In return, the Orioles will receive Tyler Nevin, Terrin Vavra, and a player to be named later, as first reported by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

That's Phil Nevin's son for those keeping score at home and want to feel old as horsefeathers.

The White Sox and Indians are “actively involved” in trade talks surrounding Cleveland right-hander Mike Clevinger, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Jon Heyman of MLB Network adds the Braves, Yankees, Padres and Dodgers among Clevinger’s pursuers, adding that the right-hander has a “good chance” to be dealt.
