....IMB and I are going to be besties from here on out....

I can see that, its like the gathering of the juggalos but with less mental capacity

You realize that IMB used to only converse with me with the same "totally normal behavior" stuff as recently as this winter, right? If we are agreeing on something, it just means we are right. The Jets are boring AF and so is Tom.

I have no idea why you are going after me now, and I really don't think you ought to be wading into the realm of evaluating others' mental capacities.

I'm not going after you at all, just noting that I agree that you and imb! make a wonderful couple. I'm happy for you both really.

You told me I was sucking his dick and said I was dumber than a Juggalo...

Weird schedule quirk:

Jets and Dolphins play each other, then both have a bye week, and then play each other again

Larry Warford's a FA and yep he is welcome to join the Jets...Someone said he is the slowest guard in the league but really it sounds like the Saints have no cap space

Cap space wasn’t the reason at all. The reason the Saints drafted Ruiz in the 1st round is because they were very unhappy with how Warford played last year. The Athletic quoted Sean Payton as saying “he sucked”. They were ready to move on.

That said, Warford wasn’t injured as far as anyone can tell, so he might be a strong candidate to bounce back with another team.

New Rooney Rule enhancements to be propsed:

Cliff notes:

Stop the ability for teams to block assistant coaches from "bona fide" coordinator roles

Draft comp for minority hires at GM/HC and coordinator levels AND QB coaches

Extend Rooney rule for coordinator roles

Possibly double the required number of minority candidates for GM/HC roles.

NFL out for a troll:

Small bumps in the 3rd and 4th rounds if the coach or GM lasts 3 years or something. It's a good idea, clearly necessary for this cesspool of a league

I'm less sold on the draft pick ideas. The other changes about not allowing teams to block candidates for coordinator roles and extending the Rooney rule to minority candidates are easy ones.

With the draft comp thing, I'm not convinced it will affect teams decisions that much, but it will definitely create questions for every minority candidate who gets hired whether they were the best candidates.

I know it's easy to rag on the NFL as being a cesspool, but on the issue of minority hires it's easy to forget they're the only league really doing anything like the Rooney Rule. The NBAs coaching/executive representation issue is just as bad and they're doing nothing formal (they have some diversity advisor in the league office that teams can consult and that's it).

So anyone following the wild story of the CB from Seattle, Dunbar and CB from Giants Baker involved in an armed robbery?

The one Baker supposedly told a third guy to shoot a party guest who had just walked in or something? A little bit. Lately everytime some crazy NFL story comes out I think painkillers and opioids. Baker had serious talent and should be done

Yeah, if they are really guilty of what it appears they are being charged for, a suspension is the least of their worries. They could end up doing 15 years.

Yeah and now I'm reading things like a mandatory 10, Baker hasn't turned himself in, the Giants have been in contact, he's ignoring calls after hanging up on a cop...The first thing I heard was Baker decided to rob the party because he was losing money gambling, took watches and cash worth like $40K...$40K!!

In THIS economy??

The NBA is doing much better than the NFL. Not sure what the numbers are now, but at one point there were as many as 14 black head coaches. Several NBA assistants are minorities. The NBA has also been the most proactive by miles in hiring women as coaches, referees and executives. NBA executives aren't really as diverse as it should be....but they are doing better than any other league. 20% of NBA exes are minorities. Over 36% of the NBA league office are minorities. Almost 46% of assistant coaches are black. I'm sure the NBA has some sort of program, they just don't feel the need to announce. Even if they don't, they are still doing pretty well, all things considered.

Baker was scheduled to make nearly 2.4 Mil this year, with 8 Mil total guaranteed over the next 3 years, along with a possible 5th year option in the double digit millions. Dunbar was scheduled to make 3.4Mil and was in line for a bigger payday after the season as a free agent.

They had lost a combined 70K the night before, I'm assuming playing against the same people. I'm guessing at some point they figured out some cheating of some sort was going on and came ready the next night. My guess is they think they caught some cheating, flipped out, started a fight and planned to get revenge/their money back. Police reports state the 3 cars were parked outside for easy getaway.

NBA definitely better on the gender front. As far as racial diversity the league player makeup is higher black then the NFL, so it would follow it would have a higher coach makeup, though I don't know exactly where the ratios fall today or over the past decade or so. Still it definitely just came up with the Bulls VP search as far as the NBA having a diversity issue in the executive front. And the NFLs Rooney rule did seem to work for a while, before falling back off, so they're reacting, perhaps a little too reactively instead of proactively, but they have acted pretty well all things considered.

It's self-parody that 30+ white billionaire Trumpers trust themselves so little to give minority coaching candidates a chance that they would propose draft-pick affirmative action to fix it instead of just, you know, giving minority coaching candidates a chance.

I agree with your whole post really, should give credit for doing something formal, just am in the mindset where having a bunch of second generation guys filling up the league ala the Shanahans/Gibbs/Schottenheimers, maybe a couple Harbaughs with full control, and way more GMs and FO guys wouldacouldashoulda been happening

There's definitely been meaningful gains with guys like Rivera (a two time HC with a long and quality first run), Lynn, and David Shaw over at Stanford getting a taste, Brian Flores is going to get plenty of leash in Miami, and several of the up and coming young coaches in the game are minority candidates which feels different

All the proposals that were not draft comp related passed. None of the draft comp rules were passed.

Of note, the FO requirement is far ranging and includes senior non football roles like marketing/IT. And it's specified female applicants would meet the criteria as well.

So Brees comes under fire for his comments about kneeling and the flag yesterday.

He issues an apology through Instagram. I don't know if it's the power of celebrity or just being in the position as a powerful white male, but these dudes can't ever seem to issue an apology without making a huge chunk of it about them (we see it frequently in the me too era). But this apology, complete with the cheesy ass photo comes off like he's more concerned about how his words were interpreted than he is concerned about black men being gunned down while jogging or choked to death by police.

I know Brees does a lot of direct action in the NOLA community, and I'm sure he has good intent, but damn dude, why is an unequivocal apology so hard for guys?

Because they don’t mean it?

Yeah, he wants to say they should just comply with commands of the cops but realized he can’t so he hems and haws.

Drew's problem isn't that he's a closet racist, or is anti BLM. He just doesn't get it, and until now hasn't had the curiosity to want to learn. He falsely made it a "suporting our troops" issue, because in his priveleged life he has always had the luxury to never need to question his country. It doesn't make him evil or racist. It makes him willfully naive. He has done amazing things for this community, both with money and with active participation in causes. Even the fact that he chose to move into this poor and predominanty black city when we were completely broken rather than into some gated community in the burbs speaks a lot to who he is. Unfortunately, what he said also reflects on who he is. I believe that he is capable of being much bigger than that, and hopefully he can learn what he and many others have needed to realize for a long time. His track record suggest to me anyway that he will. We'll see what happens next.
