The union very much supports the DH, and has been vocal about wanting it in the NL for a long time, so we're not sure what you're talking about.

All I’m mocking is the idea that the union has any real control, or can truly be the driver in the conversation. They’ve been in decline for decades. The DH rewards the owners as much as it rewards any of the players with more offense, more fans at the stadium. I’m fairly certain that if the owners really hated the DH, they’d get rid of it regardless of what the union wanted.

But i really like Davids pear lol-wut

This is, quite honestly, a strangely impressive and wildly incorrect take of the state of the union.

I wish you were right honestly

We are. You're mistaking the shortsighted deals that are are a part of the clash between players and owners right now as being the result of a lack of power on the part of the union, which is just flat out wrong.

So the union is just stupid then.

Not *just* stupid, but I'd say moreso selfish and short sighted. They sold minor leaguers and amateurs down the river for things like an extra seat on bus and plane rides and an extra chef in the clubhouse before games. But then things like the Qualifying Offer and the Luxury Tax were pure stupidity.

, I'd rather keep it as is with the strategy that comes with it.

Why do people keep pretending there is strategy involved here?

Because there is?

It's a lost battle and I've reconciled myself to that fact. I agree that it is stupid to have different rules in different leagues - which of course would have been just as easily fixed by eliminating the DH. AL managers refer to not having to worry about deciding whether to swap out pitchers when behind in a game all the time; so to say there is no strategy involved is absurd. You can argue about the value to the game about having to make those decisions but to say there is no strategy involved is disingenuous and undermines the integrity of any other point trying to be made. The continuation of the logic at play is then to simply have a fielding line up and a hitting line up - which I have to believe everyone would think would be an abomination. The simple litmus test for MYSELF is that this makes the game easier and to me that is just an indication that it is pandering to the masses. Lets move all outfield fences in 75 feet, start each inning with 1 out and a runner on 1st and second. We can have average scores akin to the NFL and games will last 90 minutes. My 2 cents as I sink down into the cold, welcoming water for the third time.

i actually think this question is a least a little interesting despite the fact that it'll never happen and i would probably prefer it not (would be cool to see in maybe an all star game or something tho)

I love good defense, but I think that probably makes the game go further in the blurnsball direction that it has the last couple years(by valuing power/home runs even more), which I definitely don't like.

Yea, if you split offense/defense to "value defense" the offense will become so 3 outcome-y, defense will be devalued.

not to mention how marginalized basically every guy who plays a position other than 1B/LF/whatever but doesn't play elite defense would become.

Woo hoo, the DH is fun and awesome.

This is great, instead of pretending there is something strategic about letting a crappy hitter hit, I get to watch guys who know how to hit actually hit.

Hate the DH. I would rather MLB get rid of the pitcher’s hitting spot and just have 8 guys hit. After the first 3 go up anything can happen to the order and frequency of batters each inning thereafter.

Edit: I guess I hate it so much I replied twice [emoji23]

I actually always thought I'd hate it, but maybe just because it's a weird season to begin with, I haven't been bothered one bit by it and am fine moving forward with a DH. I know many already were on that bandwagon for years. I've joined late. Plus, it's a disadvantage to NL teams in free agency and trades.

I should know this but don't, but I'm really hoping the man on second base to start extras is just this year. It horsefeathering sucks. And horsefeathers this three batter rule. Speeding up a game by 6.4 minutes isn't going to attract thousands of new fans.

I thought I'd hate the DH, but I haven't missed the pitcher batting one bit

We sort of have six pitchers batting in the lineup, but agree.

I thought it was pretty obvious to everyone that the DH was coming in the next CBA anyway, so it just seems stupid to me to go back to no DH for one more season, especially when it doesn't look like it will be a 'regular' season.

IMO they won't, they just don't want teams sitting on their hands for another 6 weeks while they wait to figure it out. The MLBPA is going to end up giving the league expanded playoffs for this year in exchange for the DH and a few other things.

Putting NL clubs in limbo is the worst possible choice. This is stupid.
